I hope you had lots of fun in your first game.
1. Yes, there is -2 to hit.
2. From the German Army book 2nd Edition, it applies to both:
HITLER’S BUZZ SAW
German-made machine guns, but in particular the lethal MG42, are vastly superior to their enemies’ and rightly feared by Allied infantrymen. German light and medium machine guns fire one…[Read more]

Hello!
Yesterday i have played the first game of Bolt action with the figures from the starter set.
So there were some questions, that came up:
1. The Hanomag uses the HE-Munition. If the attacked unit decides to go down as the reaction, will the to-hit-throw be modified with -2, because the target unit is down? Will all the potential…[Read more]

SteveT replied to the topic spotter and holding objectives in the forum Bolt Action 5 years, 4 months ago
But you think it’s ok for an unarmed mortar team reduced to 1 man to take an objective?

Steeljackal replied to the topic spotter and holding objectives in the forum Bolt Action 5 years, 4 months ago
I agree with Warlord answer, because spotter can’t fire or assault, excalty like a medic and a chaplain. He work like a non-combat unit, only things he do is extend mortar/arty los. So to me have no sense that he can take and hold objective.
Then is true, rules does not say explicitly he can’t, but to me rules say it implicitly. I work every day…[Read more]

Related to my other post about “who can use open order”.
Can a unit change from open to formed, just so it can ignore enemy skirmishers? Seems odd

Hi yes I have these, as well as the US and German packs. I bought them dueing a sale at US$10 a pack. They are less “beefy” than the Warlord Soviet plastic ones, and I would say the scale is ok. I like my armies to have a variety of poses, and so mix and match figures from different manufacturers, as long as they are to scale (as much as possible).

And this was the point I was trying to lean towards. Just because it’s not in the rule book doesn’t automatically mean it can be performed.
But that’s the point of having “rules” in every game. If players do not go by what the rules specifically allow or disallow, then the game will be bogged down by such lengthy discussions during the game and…[Read more]

Master Chief replied to the topic spotter and holding objectives in the forum Bolt Action 5 years, 4 months ago
The rules do not say anything about Spotters not being able to fire the vehicle’s weapons. However, we know a Spotter cannot use the weapons of a vehicle it is being transported in.
We know that because it was stated in the FAQs (see below) so in a sense it is part of the “rules”:
Can a medic or an artillery/mortar spotter fire the weapons of a…[Read more]

I’ve seen it as a side note in various unit type descriptions but its not clear to me what the overall rule is.
For example, can a unit of heavy infantry voluntarily enter open formation to traverse a forest? Can a war band?
Thanks

SteveT replied to the topic spotter and holding objectives in the forum Bolt Action 5 years, 4 months ago
I’m with Master Chief on this. The rules do not say anything about Spotters not being able to take stuff. The fact the rules do specifically single out medics as being unable to capture suggests they are the only notable exception.
ALSO:
From rules: “The spotter is part of the mortar or artillery team”
So if the mortar crew can capture…[Read more]
