So just received a copy of Close Quarters…
And there are some glaring omissions and padding in it!
1) Why include an aircraft type column in the tables then not mention them/ give extra flavour? I mean whats the difference between a fighter & a heavy fighter OR an attack aircraft ….a single engined spitfire has exactly the same rules as a…[Read more]

That carronades shot more accurate was caused by the barrel that was closer to the ball size, less windage. The ball being driven with less “jumping” around. And the powder was used better, less energy being lost by passing the ball before leaving the muzzle.
Trained Gunner knew how to deal with the vivo, the difference between the bore and the…[Read more]

One of the topics that make real world and game crash. The LMG loader carried the spare part and the tool bag, including the spare barrel. Bren magazines are distributed among all men carried in the amo pouches at webbing.
PIAT projectiles are carried in a case. The PIAT loader surely had no Bren parts so could not do the LMG job fully. The mo…[Read more]

I’ve consolidated the various optional rules from the 3 black powder supplements for the Napoleonics in to a single document for the guys at my local club in the UK. Any way thought I’d put it up here to see what people think.
Its written in a short hand as we all have the supplements, but rather than having the take them all around I thought…[Read more]

invisible officer replied to the topic Plug Bayonets Question in the forum Black Powder 5 years, 1 month ago
The sources are vague, not ever stating the type. We know that some units used plug and socket ones at same time. From 1692 we have no more invoices stating plug ones. So……
The pike advocats died slowly, the Swiss French units using both types of bayonet and pike together until 1703.
Many went again for swine feathers, so Russia in 1704.…[Read more]

IO – I know nothing about this thread but I am interested in clarifying the posts. George said that the French introduced socket bayonets in 1703, are you saying that the socket bayonet was introduced earlier in France? Secondly LAOK has plug bayonets as being not removable in action, is this backed up by the literature?
Thanks
Garry

Well, 1703 is a bit late for French introduction.
Vauban had advocated a plug bayonet as early as 1669 and the first French line infantry regiments got it 1689. The Fusiliers du Roi had no pikes since creation 1672, being armed with flintlocks as artillery guards. No burning matches for a unit that guarded the artillery Boooom…….
But the…[Read more]

Zaitsevs rules win… they are a definite 2+ irrespective of anything else… he ‘wounds’ vehicles on a 2+. Kieffers rules say that instead of a 5+ you need a 6+
So Kieffer changes the wound chart from 5+ to 6+, then Zaitesev changes it 2+ as he doesnt care about the starting value…. OR Zaitsev changes it from a 5+ to a 2+ then Kieffer CANT…[Read more]

SteveT started the topic Not good in the forum Beyond the Gates of Antares 5 years, 1 month ago
Played our first game today. Was not good at all. Points system is bizarrely unbalanced, way too many fiddly random modifiers and non-random modifiers. Assaults rules are far too unwieldy.
Wish it had the elegant simplicity of Bolt Action that effectively conquers all these things with less mental processing.
I came, I saw, I said “No”.

The Portuguese line battalions had 4 line companies and 1 grenadier company each. No light company after 1808. Loads of info here LINK

you get to choose if units like observers /snipers are part of the reserves or deployed units.
If deployed units then they can use their deployment rules instead of the normal rules

As a Russian I’ve played against the Nebelwerfer a couple of times… the potential damage it can do with the templates is enough that I’ve targeted it as soon as possible!

The morion helmet was typical all over Western Europe, from Malta to Scotland. And the pants had been international fashion too. Like later French styles the Spanish one was “de rigeur”.
Regular troops needed a sash or similar field sign to distinguish them.
The modern arms and armor in the English and Spanish stores looked the same. Only…[Read more]
