  • Yes that’s basically what I said but in a longer winded way 😂 A sniper hitting a soft-skin kills it (automatic exceptional damage of 6+), hitting an armoured open-topped just pins it (because its automatic exceptional damage only scores a 6+ and cannot damage armoured open-topped vehicles).

  • Nat replied to the topic Snipers and vehicles in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 11 months ago

Sorry @Master Cheif but the Exceptional damage rule doesnt come in to this as the sniper (unless its OstFront Ziestsev) needs a 6 to wound the softskin, as a small arms theres no bonuses to the wounding roll against a vehicle.  Once its ‘wounded’ you then roll on the vehicle damage chart.  There is nothing on that chart that allows for m…[Read more]

  • Bolt Actiin 2nd Ed page 116:

Units carried aboard a transport vehicle cannot be targeted directly by the enemy.

  • Grenades either slow the game down for little benefit, ie the use of 1 per unit… hits 1-2 people with a normal hit or you end up with rules saying you can use X grenades here but only if Y can happen.
OR they are totally overpowered … a unit of 12 guys throwing grenades against a unit of 8 vets… each vet getting hit 2-3 times..

    THey are a…[Read more]

  • 1. As Nat has already written, in the game an approximation is made, all the guns have the same characteristics.
Only for the Americans there is the special rule of firing in motion without penalty, because compared to other armies the basic service rifle was semi-automatic Garand M1 and not a bolt-action rifle (other armies also had or developed…[Read more]

  • 1. In this game all rifles are rifles be they semi-automatic or bolt action.  The Russians also have a semi-automatic rifle on their sprue.
However most US units are all counted as having the M1 Grande  which is why their national rule is to ignore the -1 for moving and shooting.  IIRC in the errata a couple of units are stated as having the sp…[Read more]

  • Nat replied to the topic Rules Question Thread in the forum Black Powder 4 years, 12 months ago

I read it as more a case of two rules 1)artillery can ignore units of skirmishers when forced to shoot the closest unit

& 2) artillery can ignore the skirmishers of a unit when working out LoS & to hit score…. ie ignore the skirmishers and hit the line /column behind them.

  • To be honest… not cost effective for warlord to do this.

If they only put a few in a blister they wont sell and so waste of money manufacturing them/ marketing & distributing them, too many and they either only sell one or two OR the ‘loose plane’ blisters out sell the based planes.

Dont forget that most things are made in house so resource…[Read more]

  • Hi George,

If you want to stay and defend the field then the unit can stay ‘bent’ as long as it stays there.  As this is a non-standard situation then I suggest agree a suitable method to allocate dice with your opponent.  Perhaps randomise which side gets the extra dice each turn?  You could also consider using the rules for buildings for troops…[Read more]

for  board sizes, the did say (although it might be v1) that they playtested on a 8′ 6′ board.

For bent lines, I’ve read it as IF you move, you need 1 order to straighten the line before heading off….ie you want to move 6″ down the road you need two orders

  • George replied to the topic Bending Lines in the forum Black Powder 5 years ago

Also, this leads to a peeve i’m having with the scenario rules. Map sizes aren’t given. I get this in that playing with different size miniatures will mean different size maps (6 mm require less battle mat than 28 mm). I wish a chart was made for the scenarios giving recommended sizes for the type of miniatures being used (i.e. “In this scenario…[Read more]

    Hello again,

Developing my first battlefield for Elixheim. I went cheap for starters. Bought a 6′ x 4′ green felt fabric to be my battle mat and some other felt fabrics to be my rivers, roads, and fields.

The fields turn out be be very small if I go exactly with images from the map on the battlefield. I’ll probably fudge this to make the…[Read more]

So just received a copy of Close Quarters…

And there are some glaring omissions and padding in it!

    1) Why include an aircraft type column in the tables then not mention them/ give extra flavour?  I mean whats the difference between a fighter & a heavy fighter OR an attack aircraft ….a single engined spitfire has exactly the same rules as a…[Read more]

  • That’s a really useful summary, Nat.  Thanks for sharing 👍

Nice work. I started playing Bolt Action with the 101st Airborne, and my army just continue to grow on their own … my French resistance platoon just arrived today 😅

  • I thought you meant the hardcopies were at Ospreygames website. Now I see the PDFs available as well at £16 each. If you buy both the hardcopy and the PDF or ePub version, you get 25% discount for both. I’ll wait for the Warlord PDFs.

  • Nat replied to the topic PDF Availability Question in the forum Bolt Action 5 years ago

I dont get how one publisher can have them available on their site yet the other partner doesnt….

ok I also dont get how DDay Canadian is £16, & Marinas in £19.19 for ebook & PDF but yeah…..

  • Does anyone here have any idea as to when the new D-Day book; “D-Day: British & Canadian Sectors – Bolt Action Theatre Book”, will be available?

I just received my pre-ordered copy last Friday with the free Stan Hollis miniature. I am also waiting for the PDF as well.

That carronades shot more accurate was caused by the barrel that was closer to the ball size, less windage. The ball being driven with less “jumping” around. And the powder was used better, less energy being lost by passing the ball before leaving the muzzle.

Trained Gunner knew how to deal with the vivo, the difference between the bore and the…[Read more]
