Stuart Harrison replied to the topic M51 Multiple Machine Gun Carriage (quad .50 cal), what tow? in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 6 months ago
“counts as a heavy gun for the purposes of movement” – I’d say ‘heavy gun for the purposes of movement’ would require a tow capable of towing a heavy AA gun. As it’s been defined as both an AA gun, and heavy, it would need something additional to that to vary those existing requirements.

I’d dig bringing HE back to dice-roll number of hits, but with a maximum number of hits equal to the number of models in a unit (templates are more ambiguous, but dice-roll hits mean that HE is often better than AT at taking down an armored vehicle.)

I’m bit confused what can tow this trailer. It is artillery and AA gun, that much it clear. In errata it says “Fixed (counts as a heavy gun for the purposes of movement)”. I assume this means that it cannot be moved by manhandling the weapon, you have to use tow. If so, what is this weapons tow rating? Light, medium or heavy AA gun?

We have a house rule that snipers can only kill people, not equipment, and this makes team weapons more survivable.

You don’t need to use a Generic Reinforced Platoon to get unhistorical lists. A Panther tank and panzerfausts are available to Romanians in 1941 in the theatre selections due to lazy list writing. The theatre selectors in the army lists should be more accurate to stop Soviets using captured panzerfausts in Stalingrad. These unhistorical ex…[Read more]

Thank you. I actually missed the cover description on page 54.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Rules Questions in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 7 months ago
‘Shooters’ is models that can actually fire. To shoot a model needs to be able to draw a line of fire (declare targets step) and within range (measure range and open fire step).
Cover is given for the entire unit or not at all. That is the entire reason for having to reach the 50% threshold. You need to read the actual definitions of the co…[Read more]

This problem has been discussed before, but I haven’t been able to find a consistent answer yet.
Is the cover modifier always applied to the entire firing unit or do you look at the line of sight of each individual model of a firing unit and see whether it gets the cover modifier or not? I very often see players give the cover modifier to some…[Read more]

I second what SteveT said above, but a quick response “…but Panthers and panzerfausts in 1941 just doesn’t sit well with me.” might be in order here.
Even if you only have the Bolt Action Second Edition rule book and nothing else (like the campaign books), the Panther tank is not a choice for a 1941 game. Yep, even when using the Generic R…[Read more]

Hi there. My name is Steven and I am generally a plastic modeller in 1/35, 1/48 and 1/72 scale and I also run N gauge trains. I am based in Cheshire, UK. I am new to Bolt Action and I love the idea of building a sizeable army on the tabletop that is convincing unlike in 1/35 scale where this would be impossible. I am developing an Italian army and…[Read more]

Being “completely unhistorical” is not fair I think, since you are looking at a snapshot of live war, not a pristine parade ground. In other words, you are getting a zoomed-in view of a tiny area of battle, with units chaotically interacting in the field already haven taken various losses and gained temporary attachments of all kinds. You c…[Read more]
