Another great battle report, JW. It is interesting to see the expansion in remote gaming that happened in the pandemic.

Hi Tatertron – welcome to the Pike and Shotte period! A very colourful and interesting place to wargame. The Thirty Years War is one of my favourite conflicts for games. The Sun King armies shown in the rule book are really a slightly later part of the period and typically people don’t mix TYW and the later half of the 17th century armies t…[Read more]

Koin-Koin started the topic Laden token status – opinion request in the forum Blood Red Skies 5 years, 7 months ago
Hi everyone,
I’m in the mood of creating some token to track the laden status during a game but as I didn’t experience the rule so far I’m asking those who already played it some advice about two specific points:
– what is better to use, a token to show that a plane has the laden status (then remove it once load dropped) or a token that show an…[Read more] -

They don’t remove pins, but everyone fights as if they have no pins. There is no ‘to hit’, only to wound rolls made.
If you’re being charged and wanting to shoot the oncoming enemy, pins still apply and i think range is calculated from the distance the model declared the charge. Hope this helped.

Hmm, there are very good French soldiers available for early Louis XIV time. Including the Musketeers. Google for 1672 . Infantry still with pikes and no bayonets like in TYW. I did a larger French force (and 1672 Dutch, Spanish, Austrian and English) and like them a lot.
A certain Nottingham company did some French TYW foot long ago,…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic Napoleonic Artillery – Using Half Batteries paired as full batteries in the forum Black Powder 5 years, 7 months ago
If you look at most of the Napoleonic army lists they dont have howitzer entries so I would say they are factored in & the 2-2-2 is for a full howitzer battery only

Yeah WL could do with a proof reader who plays the games!… And all 3 books could do with a V2 revamp with some more consistancy across all of them (why is it -8 points to down grade in Clash but half points in AT 1&2?) why do horse artillery go from being light smothbore guns in AT1 to being just smoothbore artillery in AT2? etc etc

The blurb /writting about deploying as half batterys is the background /historical reasoning behind being able to take half batterys in your list.
The half battery option is for downgrading the unit when you purchase them, ie you are buying a small battery instead of a normal sized one. (which is why in CofE lists they are written as ‘downgrade…[Read more]

Yes is would be option B….. if you rolled 4,1,1, then it could be B or A (depending on how you read the massive damage paragraph!). If you rolled a 1 for the pen hit & then a 4 +1 it would be forced disembarked with 2 PINs

Hi Bill,
As the tailed plan is made disadvantaged (and not just counted as being disadvantaged) at the end of the attackers movement step, they then get to make their ‘defensive tactics’ move. When the next step of the activation comes round (the pilot action) the defender is still disadvantaged….the benifet of the card its to make the shot a…[Read more]

invisible officer replied to the topic Prussian Generals CoE and 100days army lists? in the forum Black Powder 5 years, 7 months ago
Nat gave the right answer. The problem came from the original organisation.
A Prussian Brigade had a Line Regiment of 3 Battalions (2 Musketeer / 1 Fusilier), a Reserve regiment of 3 Battalions and a Landwehrregiment of 3 – 4 Battalions.
Regimental CO was a Lt. Colonel but often a Major was doing the job.
Brigade CO was a…[Read more]

🤦♂️😅 Another badly written part of the rulebook… No Pen value to roll to damage…
at first reading the regulation seems simple, but then you go into detail and the rulebook is written very badly, many things are unclear or clearly written wrong, and then the FAQs say otherwise

Nat replied to the topic Units on transport in the forum Bolt Action 5 years, 7 months ago
no you havent got wrong… its 1 pin per firing unit…. unless the firing unit has HE or a flamethrower in which case those pins will take precidence.
ie 5 rifles will be 1 pin
5 rifles and a rifle grenade will be D2 pins
5 rifles and a flamethrower will be D6+1 pins

Haha I think you can still roll 2 dice and apply both results … one after the other, unless of course the first one destroys the vehicle. I do Stuart’s point about applying all damage dice simultaneously instead of sequentially. But I have always thought all hits from a single firing unit on a single target will score only 1 pin regardless of…[Read more]

picture attached… cant quote page number as I’m looking at an ebook version… but it says roll once, apply then roll again (unless the vehicle is destroyed by the first result, of course)
Ok the same paragraph then goes on to look like its contradicting its self by saying roll two dice and apply both results…….can we get some proof readers…[Read more]
