Correct, only the para infantry section benefits from this rule. Teams, officers, artillery, etc do not receive the stubborn rule.

So, I’ve had a few games with BB’s, Cruisers and DD’s and just venturing into Aircraft and Carriers. But I can’t see their worth if you are playing a standard 8 turn game! I was specifically looking at the HMS Ark Royal, but it gets worse with US and Japanese carriers. The Ark Roal can carry 15 flights, in a standard 8 turn game you can only…[Read more]

Is it correct that the British Paras Stubborn rule only applies to the Paratroop Infantry Sections in a unit?
It does not apply to the rest of the sections (officer, sniper, mortar team, etc.) in the unit even if they are paratroopers. Only the paratroop infantry sections would not have to count pins when performing a moral test. All the o…[Read more]

Yes, see the moving artillery by horse section of the rules. Personally I don’t allow units to fire if they have moved more than once, a rule introduced in the Last Argument of Kings and Clash of Eagles supplements.

Many thanks both. Sorry to labour the point but just to be completely clear. So a foot battery can limber, do one move, unlimber and shoot all in one Turn, provided has an order for three movies. Correct?
Agree with all your other points on horse artillery and shrapnel. Thanks!

Then again…..you could imagine that the Allied Command could create something out desperation, using a “the ends justify the means”- type argument and viewing it as a “necessary evil” to stop the Axis and pro-Soviet alliances from enslaving the world and keeping it a secret from the American and British public, perhaps having these hypotheti…[Read more]

Regarding the rockets, as they are foot artillery, I would say that they have the same stamina. They are not as mobile as horse artillery, which is the trade off for the low stamina level given to horse artillery. That is something that is often overlooked by those who criticise the mobility given to horse artillery in the game. Once the unit…[Read more]

I’ve just posted a new blog entry on Auldearn 1645, that looks at setting up the terrain for the battle at Warlord’s Open Day on 25th Sept. As there is fighting in the village itself, the terrain includes buildings, and I have described my approach to organising the fighting in built up areas.

Shrapnel… not to be to nerdy… but yes but 3D6 hitting on 5s and @D6 hitting on 4s have the same expected value… “1 hit”. But they have very different outcome distributions including upper ranges. So with 2D6 you are more likely to have more 0 hits and 2hits. With 3D6, you are less likely to miss and can even inflict as many as 3 hi…[Read more]

A few more queries for anyone that can help:
-British rocket troop. What stamina is it? Is it the same as horse artillery?
-Foot artillery movement. I’ve seen a few threads on this but not sure of the final conclusion. Under the main BP2 rules (not supplements/house rules) can a foot artillery unit with a successful order for three Moves…[Read more]

Thanks Big Al – clear now and also clarifies my earlier question on forming squares. Good point on the -1 when not using initiative – easy to forget that one.

As Garry has said, you can change formation. I discussed this with Rick personally and he explained that expanding and contracting the frontage does not count as sideways movement.
So, you can change formation while within proximity. Don’t forget that there will be a -1 to the command roll for being that close to an enemy unit if you are not u…[Read more]

Thank Garry
This is really helpful as always. Having looked again, I agree with you.
Given both the Initiative Order and Proximity Rule are relevant if within 12” of enemy, it must follow that if you are allowed to change formation under Initiative Orders, you must also be able to under the Proximity Rule, or it wouldn’t make any sens…[Read more]

Garry Wills replied to the topic Proximity rule and formation changes in the forum Black Powder 4 years, 3 months ago
No, there is nothing in the rules that prevent you changing formation within proximity distance. The main point of the rule is to stop units being shuffled sideways in the presence of the enemy. In formation changes the unit stays in place and moves neither forward nor backwards, so it is very similar to turning to face. On p.33 of BP2 under…[Read more]

Hello all
Brief question on formation changes under the Proximity rule as I have seen differing comments on this.
My understanding is that is not allowed. You are only allowed to do a Move forward keeping entirely within your front quarter (or similar back into your rear quarter). This means that you can change direction e.g. pivot to face a d…[Read more]

short answer – Nope
Long Answer – Snap to basically gives you the chance of 2+ orders in succession without the chance of your opponent getting ‘a pull’ in between and therefore messing up your plans. The rules actually tell you to take the order check for the officer to make sure he gets it then (paraphrase) allocate out the other order bu…[Read more]
