    Hi,

What are Warlord’s plans (if any) for future releases of new vessels?  More merchantmen, especially the smaller types, would be good, but having just read the article on the Yugoslav Partisan navy, I was wondering if some Mediterraenean vessels would be useful – Greek fishing caiques and the like?

Sadly, the field of 1:300 ships is not huge and so there isn’t a lot of scope for conversion as there is with, say, 1:600 coastal stuff.

It would be handy to know.

Always nice to see conversions. I mix and match between various sets and also make or repurpose figures that I need for scenarios.

I needed a panzerschreck so made one.

    Hi everyone,

after playing as the Germans for quite a while, I was thinking of a change. I’ve always liked the idea of the French Forces of the Interior (the FFI). For the few who haven’t heard of them they were the semi-organised and semi-uniformed partisans who rose up after D-Day. There’s some really great pictures of them, plus film footage of them fighting in Paris in August 1944.

I’ve two questions: which theatre selector should I be using? There seems to be three choices:

A). The Maquis selector that I understand will be in the American Sector D-day book.

B). The Free French Late War selector that’s in the Battle of the Bulge book.

C). The late war Partisan selector in the Armies of France and the Allies book.

Also, I’m starting to think about vehicles, so apart from the comandeered trucks and Citroen cars I’m looking at captured tanks. I know the FFI recpatured Char 1Bs plus some Hotchkiss and Somua tanks. Does anyone know if any of the German conversions were ever captured and reused by the FFI? I’m thinking of stuff such as the Panzerjäger 35R etc…

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.

Very quiet on the forum.  Cmpared to BA nearly dead.

Well, I did again some scratch building.

I wanted some R- Boote / Räumboote for my 1/300 Kriegsmarine. Warlord offers the R 23 , based on the basic type R 21-24  and   R 41 – 150 .  R 25 – 40 / R 151 –  300 being similar, main difference below water, no Voith Schneider Propellers.  These are ttached om a pivot system  so that they could be turned 360°, making the boat turning on spot. Not bad in mine service but it costs a bit of max. speed and  building was complicated.

Why scratch building if there are ready made models available?

Reason 1: Fun. I love scratch building.

Reason 2: Price. Ahem, yes. For the money two  resin kits cost I can buy material for a fleet of R-Boote. With less fun for crazy me.

Reason 3: I wanted to do Boats based on R 53 – 72 sub type-. Two in 1940/41 version, with mast and 2 x 2 cm AA. And two in 42/43 conversion with mast replaced by an antenna and 1 x 3,7 cm  + 2 x 2cm AA.   One of each with mines.  For that the resin models are only bases anyway.

And  4, the main reason: Brexit.   Now  delivery to continent takes an XXXX time. In the moment I’m waiting for a campaign book, send with UPS on 28th January.  16th February  it reached the border custom service office and is now, four days later with local custom office.

Rules say at end of turn, you have a 50% chance, if you wish to try it, of making a group with Ambush take a shot instead.

But in what order is this done?

We had 5 in Ambush and the order would have affected who shot what.

I wanted to share my latest project for my DAK platoon. I found a Solido 1/43 scale Mercedes on Ebay. I know it’s not exact, but since it’s a 2 door, the length is probably not too out of scale. Passengers are from Company B. The truck and MMG car are also from Company B and the motorcycle is Warlord. The truck is as it comes. I had to do a bit of a conversion on their Stoewer command car. I can add more pictures, but yes there is a curiously arc sized box in the back of the truck with a guard. Now I need to find an archaeologist to attach to the truck grill.

I’m in the UK so don’t suffer from any currency conversion fees with Warlord games but I still find their prices too expensive.

    • In the UK you can buy Warlord Games products significantly cheaper from other retailers.
    • Their one price fits all shipping discourages me from making small purchases.  For example, recently, I wanted a decal sheet, tiny, weighs nothing but still £5.00 shipping making the purchase too expensive
    • Their threshold for free shipping is too high to encourage small purchases
    • Their special offers are not special any more.  Used to be regular and good, good enough to encourage me to buy stuff I didn’t really need.  But now the offers are mostly meh!
    • This has got me looking at other suppliers, there is one that has an ever growing range of very nice plastic AFVs

I have bought a lot of Warlord Games stuff, but mostly from other sellers because of the reasons above.

Like many I now have the bulk of my armies but regularly there is always a little something I would like to add, some decals for a vehicle, some figures for a special unit but every time I look at Warlord Games I get turned off by the price and look elsewhere.

And recently, it feels like they don’t care about their existing, instead preferring to churn out new game systems at a phenomenal rate.

It really does seem like they are trying to become a Games Workshop.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

The change in currancy acceptance and the related exchange rate may not be warlord, but rather the bank that provides the payment portal..

I think it is not. I used to see the prices displayed in £, and when I pay with my credit card or Paypal, my credit card bank or Paypal does the exchange rate conversion, and charges a fee.

Now I see prices displayed in my local currency, and the exchange rate used is atrocious (50% more than the prevailing exchange rate)!! Warlord explained to me the reason for this is to “help” non-UK customers save on their banks’ exchange rate fees, because we are now billed in local currency and not £. Guess what, my bank still charges me a fee 🤦🏻‍♂️ If the situation doesn’t change, I will have to stop buying Warlord stuff soon.

Can someone from Warlord please look at the pricing disparity in your Web stores!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a good example of how much of a difference Canadians are paying compared to UK prices.

Fallshirmjager Starter Box set £90, using today’s conversion it should be $155.18 CAN. When I go to the website redirect to Canada it lists as 198.00 plus shipping.

Why is there such a huge price change between web stores? The crazy part is I can order from private UK eBay stores for the £90-155.18 price.

Why is Warlord charging us so much more now compared to prices in Nov-Dec 2019. We now pay on average a 25-30% more.

Well, not enjoying modelling and painting is a big problem for a gamer. Some just buy ready made armies, a question of money.

Something I would never do, for me that is 3/4 of the fun. Esp. some converions.       I just finished my Blitzkrieg and Pionier sprues (the same, just extra metal parts) from two boxes. I did them in groups of 8 – 12. Enjyoing the conversions. I love to have miniatures that nobody else has.

But if you dislike painting nothing helps. 😉

The composition of Forces depends a bit on your gaming partners. The all assault rifle squad was so rare, the white elephant with master degree.        If you all  are  “gaming to win” types they are OK but if you want an army based on history they are a no go.  Pioniere did not have that squad OOB.

The divisional Pioniere often fought as rearguards in 44/45.  So a Sturmgeschütz or 7,5 cm Pak 40 is a good  historical addition. The Stug is also good in attack games, the Pionier box having all the nice Gimmicks like the Gestreckte Ladung, flamethrower and Goliath for assaults.

As you say, it looks like a typo, cut and paste error or a bid to sell models!  The only units I can find in my books that had the Fl Pz Kpfw B-2(f) were 102 sPz Abt (F) during Barbarossa (1 month), 223 sPz Kp in Crimea, 7 SS Freiwilligen Gebirgs Division Prinz Eugen in the Balkans, the 213 sPz Abt in the Channel Islands and (in 1944) the training unit sPz Kp 224 near Arnhem had several flamethrower-equipped Fl Pz Kpfw B-2(f).  Some were issued in 1943 to 14 Pz Div and 21 Pz Div but had been returned to depot before the divisions saw action with them.  These may be the ones sent to sPz 224 at Arnhem.  Other Pz Kpfw B-2(f) were issued to a variety of units at various times though most appear to have been used for training and other secondary roles.

The other flamethrower AFVs – Pz Kpfw II Fl had been withdrawn for conversion to Marders before Stalingrad and the Pz Kpfw III Fl had not yet entered service.  The Sd Kfz 251/16 was only just entering service as the Battle of Stalingrad ended.

The easiest thing to do is just convert to centimetres. That means there is no maths to do, however simple. It works and works well. The current QRS works because the numbers are all the same, you just have to remember it’s centimetres. Of course, that becomes obvious when your unit hurtles off like a rocket because your opponent, wide eyed, lets you know about it! While we all have tape measures, if you have one of those fancy measuring sticks in centimetres, you can’t Get it wrong.

the game is forgiving enough to allow such a simple conversion and it fits the KISS rule.

Another thing I have seen done is to swich the measures from inches to centimetres.

15mm tanks are 54% the size of 28mm tanks.

A centimetre is 40% the size of an inch.

Clearly not exactly the same, but close enough that it makes it easy – just every measure you see in inches in the rules you keep the same but change them to centimetres. Saves on having to use conversion tables.

Not tried that with bolt action, but seen it work well in other rule sets.

    Cheers,

    Nigel
