Kar98k replied to the topic What do YOU want to see in Bolt Action v3? in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 5 months ago
Agreed, having a few more guidelines for buildings would be nice so that buildings in Bolt Action are less abstract and more defined.
Rules for buildings do not have to be overly complex – we wouldn’t want that! However, just a few more guidelines to take care of the more common game mechanic issues. There are a few ways to go about this, but…[Read more]

We just played one of our best Bolt Action games ever!
We used one of the new scenarios above (still not sure which one is my favorite), and we used one of the different methods for activating units (still not sure which one is my favorite). Anyway, just wanted to share.

That reminds me. I would also like restrictions for some weapons on firing from within buildings, bunkers, and basically an enclosed area. For example, there should be a penalty (or simply no allowed) when firing a bazooka, Leichtgeschütz 40, Panzerschreck, panzerfaust, and other such weapons from an enclosed space. Note however that the PIAT…[Read more]

Kar98k replied to the topic Color of uniforms in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 6 months ago
The book “The Indian Army 1914-1947” from Osprey Publishing doesn’t give a lot of details on uniforms, but it seems to suggest that either was possible (Khaki or re-dyed Jungle Green). However, it also points out that from 1943, uniforms were progressively replaced among Indian and British troops by a purpose-made lightweight copy of the British…[Read more]

Kar98k replied to the topic Are there any non-open top 7+/8+ vehicle with a Medium Howitzer besides BT-42? in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 6 months ago
@Stuart – Yep, missed that.
Then I agree with Nat. The Su76i would be the closest that I can think of too.
Side note: I recall reading that the original plan for the SU-76 was supposed to have a fully enclosed fighting compartment, but this was changed to an open top. Yes, the open top was vulnerable to small arms fire and hand grenades, but it…[Read more]

Yes.
The M3 105mm HMC has a medium howitzer and damage value of 7+
See details on page 45 of the Armies of the US.

Kar98k replied to the topic Kit Bashing Figures – Easy Peasy or a PIA ? in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 6 months ago
Originally I was going to use the newer kit with old arms but it didn’t look right so bought another box of the older models (actually I got 30 as it came with an extra sprue and weapons frame).
I can relate to this. In another thread I had mentioned, “… but more importantly this makes their newer plastic figures less compatible with their e…[Read more]

I would like to see some of the ideas mentioned above, but for sure I would like to see added:
1) Vehicle MGs reduced in effectiveness – especially co-axial and hull mounted MGs on tanks and other enclosed vehicles.
2) Forward observer units (Artillery and Air) are given the following restrictions: Not front-line combat units: Forward observer u…[Read more]

Kar98k replied to the topic Churchill Tanks in Soft Underbelly in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 7 months ago
Yes, I have noticed this as well. I think it is because the Soft Underbelly campaign book focuses on the events, situations, and actions of the Sicilian campaign, and only the first stages/phases on the Italian mainland. I believe it is for this reason the Churchill tank was not included in this campaign book. However, it does say under “About…[Read more]

Hello fellow Bolt Action fans. I just stumbled across this “Bolt Action Alliance” idea for Bolt Action the other day while watching a YouTube video where it gets briefly mentioned. I also did a quick search here on the official Bolt Action forum to see what people think. Surprisingly, this is not mentioned.
Anyway, I just had to share this wit…[Read more]

@Jim – good improvement on the MG.
Hopefully this thread will encourage those players that would normally just avoid doing something like this. It is easier than most people would think. I know because I use to be one of those that didn’t think it was within my skill level. It is just time consuming, and I think that is what worries…[Read more]

I also wanted to mention scratch building. That is, kit-bashing and scratch building.
Of course, some people make it look so easy:

Kit-bashing the figures above would be easy enough for me, but scratch building the MMG looks fun. That is why I have always wanted to try and scratch build an MMG myself just like the one pictured above using…[Read more]

For me, I find kit-bashing almost a must sometimes to get that figure you need for your games.
Kit-bashing/conversions can also be fun as well, but while kit-bashing/conversions can be easy for some, it can be a PitA for others. Even the simple ones can be a PitA for some – the latter is more dependent on their level of modelling skill.

Kar98k replied to the topic Cavalry Lances in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 9 months ago
On a serious note, it is interesting that the British dismissed the lance in the Peninsula, but then adopted it after 1815. Better for fighting ‘native’ infantry?
Not just in the Peninsula, but the entire Napoleonic Wars (and before). Unlike the other major countries, the British didn’t have Lancers regiments. They didn’t appear until after the…[Read more]

Jim, your tank riders look great.
I like how you have a few of them holding on – particularly the two figs on the middle tank with their hands on the turret.
Are these figures glued onto the tank, or can they be removed (dismounted)?

Sorry to hear this.
I too also have assembled about two to three boxes of these figures. I too also really like them. I really like that the weapons on the older sets are separate because you can get a vast variety of options and poses. The downside is that it takes a bit more modelling skill and a bit more time to assemble these older sets.
As…[Read more]
