I think it is because the Soft Underbelly campaign book focuses on the events, situations, and actions of the Sicilian campaign, and only the first stages/phases on the Italian mainland. For me, I find kit-bashing almost a must sometimes to get that figure you need for your games.

Kit-bashing/conversions can also be fun as well, but while kit-bashing/conversions can be easy for some, it can be a PitA for others. Even the simple ones can be a PitA for some – the latter is more dependent on their level of modelling skill.

I like how you have a few of them holding on – particularly the two figs on the middle tank with their hands on the turret.

I too also have assembled about two to three boxes of these figures. I too also really like them. I really like that the weapons on the older sets are separate because you can get a vast variety of options and poses. The downside is that it takes a bit more modelling skill and a bit more time to assemble these older sets.
