No, there is no penalty. The line infantry are trained to operate in a loose formation in certain terrain conditions. When they leave the terrain they must adopt their default formation as soon as they can. The skirmish units already have certain advantages in their favour already – dice modifiers for shooting and being shot at. In woods all…[Read more]

Well, not enjoying modelling and painting is a big problem for a gamer. Some just buy ready made armies, a question of money.
Something I would never do, for me that is 3/4 of the fun. Esp. some converions. I just finished my Blitzkrieg and Pionier sprues (the same, just extra metal parts) from two boxes. I did them in groups of 8 – 12.…[Read more]

Personally I stick the metal model to the bottom of the base then fill it up with a putty to levelish of the metal base.
Other approaches are to cut the metal base off and then pin the model to the base, or trim the metal down

No we don’t. Must Form Square is a charge reaction.
The part that states Tiny units can only keep to Skirmish Order is advisory. It is not part of the game rules, or it would be repeated in the rule fo Forming Square.
However, as you know, BP allows you to make changes and tweak them to suit your play, so you do what you like, really

So we have 2 conflicting absolutes… on one hand tiny units section says they can only can form march column (but only on roads and tracks… unlike all other units that can form it any where) or their default of skirmish order. Then on the other hand you have the statement that all regular units can form square.
personally I’d take the sp…[Read more]

No, it states that they can also form into March Column.
I understand what you are saying, but look at page 89 and the Form Square Rule. Nowhere in the book does it say that a tiny unit cannot Form Square. Page 88 tells you that only regular units can Form Square.

Ok got my pdf rule versionon to the iPad!
Sorry the formation is just called skirmish order as stated pg 22 in the v2 pdf. Pg 24 makes it quite clear that tiny units can only be in skirmish order, so they can’t form square.
also in Napoleonic you can have normal and large units in skirmish order…

Big Al replied to the topic Rules Question Thread in the forum Black Powder 5 years, 9 months ago
@Bert – Yes, the Proximity Rule is all important and always applies.
@Nat – I assume we are talking Napoleonic, so yes. All regular infantry has the Must Form Square Rule, even those in Open Order. There isn’t a formation called “skirmisher”. A unit that is skirmishing is a regular small or tiny unit that is operating in Open Order.

Do tiny infantry have must form square? I thought they could only form skirmish formation?

1) If the cavalry is within proximity, it can only move into its front or rear quarter. The rule on page 36 states that it is obliged to move “more or less” straight forward or straight back. So, whether it can charge and which unit it can charge, depends totally on which unit falls within its front quarter. According to your example, it sou…[Read more]

A tank is a unit the same as an MMG team or a rifle squad and doesnt have an exception in the rule to how orders work….Basically if it doesnt have an ambush order or no order next to it then no it cant reaction fire.

If a tank is assaulted by infantry, let’s say from more than 6″ away, does the tank always get to fire, even if it has fired already this turn?
Unsure.
Thank you

Nat replied to the topic French Legere units in the forum Black Powder 5 years, 9 months ago
They are rare if using the lists to create your army
In Albion Triumphant 1, (mid + late), and clash of Eagles they are limited to 1 regiment per brigade (so you could have up to 4 /5 battalions in a single brigade as Legere) and in AT2 only 1 in 4 battalions can be upgraded to Legere across the whole army!

Thankyou for your message Nigel, it has been passed on higher in the chain at Warlord and will be looked at.
We should also do everything we can to support local shops and gaming stores if we can, these are extremely important.

Having trouble figuring out the 2 body pieces and how they attach to the waist. However I do it, I get a sort of gap near the waist. Perplexing.
Anyone else had problems or know of any detailed instructions?
