SteveT replied to the topic Supporting Artillery auto-killed? in the forum Black Powder 5 years, 7 months ago
Failing to form a square on our first attempt ever was very unlucky. But it’s going to happen, on average, once in every 36 attempts. After that the infantry were destined to get chopped up. And they were.

Wow! I have to say that they were extremely unlucky. I have never failed to Form Square and I’ve not only been playing since v1 was released, but I suffer from poor dice rolling, too. So much so, that a friend I was helping to play test his Rules began changing them. I pointed out that my poor rolls didn’t mean that his rules were faulty and need…[Read more]

They had failed to form a square (p.89 failed to form on a double 1). I was really asking if the artillery support was killed. Seems yes.

You are really going to have to read through the rules. Yet again, you are missing out important things, like the infantry forming Square if they are being charged to their front. If they Form Square, the cavalry don’t charge home, which then protects the artillery.
To answer your question, yes, the artillery breaks. You can’t choose whether a u…[Read more]

Just had this situation:
Cavalry charged a line unit. Alongside the line unit, to its left, was an artillery unit. I think this counts as supporting the infantry.
The line unit did badly and their break test resulted in destruction.
Supports have to do a break test if their friends are lost. But in the case of artillery, looking at the c…[Read more]

You need to read the rules on hand to hand combat. It is all fully explained there.
For cavalry charging infantry, there may also be the “Must Form Square” Rule to apply, which would mean that the combat doesn’t happen.
anyway, to answer your question, the unit is only destroyed if the break test result states it. As the test was “pass…[Read more]

Your unit gets to maximise its firepower. When in column, firepower is reduced considerably – either down to one third or nothing at all.

What is the advantage of Line formation? I can’t see any firing mods. (I can see various Column advantages)
Thank you in advance

Big Al replied to the topic General Personal Qualities in the forum Black Powder 5 years, 7 months ago
Yes, it does refer to something in BP1. However, you could use the alternative rules in BP2 for Commander traits. They give an added flavour to the game, though they are not quite the same as those in version 1.
The traits were a number of options that could be given to a commander. I can’t remember them exactly, but they were basically, A…[Read more]

Hopefully someone can help me with this…
Cavalry unit charges an infantry unit.
1. Roll hard combat: cavalry scored 7 hits on the stamina 4 infantry.
2. Are they shaken at this point?
3 They pass their break test well. They are left with 3 casualty markers. What happens to the unit? Destroyed or now shaken?
Thanks

Just looking the the Austrians in Clash of Eagles. Page 67 has a small chart to determine Personal Quality Value of commanders. It also references that this is used in conjunction with 94 of the main rule book.
Problem: this appears it might be a references to BP v.1.
(1) So what, are Personal Quality Values?
And
(2) How do we know what r…[Read more]

I did that set long ago, before Warlord took it over. In Imperial Kürisser style. The number of options is impressive. But the horses a bit stiff in poses. I tried to give them a bit more Action.
I use to assemble all miniatures before painting. I do single miniature basing so handling is easy. I use plastic glue, the melting of surface giv…[Read more]

So reading through the Battle for the Pacific Rules manual that I got with the August copy of Wargames Illustrated and theres a few questions I’ve got – I hope these are due to the rules manual being a cut down version of the full book!
1) AA against aircraft – pg 16, says that the roll is never modified, yet pg 15 aircraft trait large has a…[Read more]

I got two of the nice Warlord KFK. The model represents the submarine hunter version of KFK 1 – 157. They had Depth Charges and 1x 3,7 cm and 1. 2 cm AA. Minesweepers had just 2 x 2 cm AA.
They had a “Spitzgatt” aft, from KFK 18 on the “Spiegelheck” was flat. That allowed an easier building.
Soon the Allied superiority in the air made…[Read more]

SteveT replied to the topic Main gun vs co-axial mg in the forum Bolt Action 5 years, 7 months ago
Yes of course in most cases it is better to use the main gun. Makes sense–it is the main gun! But if you really NEED suppression in some particular situations, then the MG will give you want you want.
Remember also if your tank has any pins, then needing a 6s or 7s will rapidly become a reality. So again the MMG might be worth it.
There are…[Read more]
