thats a mix of v1 and v2 rules…
in v1 Div Comanders could use their SR to order any unit …
in v2 Div Commanders just provide a single reroll per turn to 1 bde commander that they have joined (so start the turn in 12″ /proximity of)
however v2 also gives you the option of changing your div commanders re-roll to a different skill (IIRC theres…[Read more]

Big Al, it looks like Richard is using BP first edition in which the French were given the Reliable special rule when in attack column. Like you, I prefer to play without the additional +1. Playing with points as Richard is, there ought to be a points cost for this but it was free in BP1.
Richard, the average benefit of the extra +1 staff rating…[Read more]

Pas de Charge is 2 points per unit, and gives you in effect a limited version of reliable, in it only works if the unit is in assault column, now thats where the issue comes in – as some of the supplements say pas de charge is reliable in assault column, which is the same wording as the BPv2 rule book. However as you pay points for it we (…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic Why the Etna? in the forum Victory At Sea 5 years, 2 months ago
my view with the Italian set up including the Aquila is the aircraft and special rules… the Italians have a rule that if you take ground based aircraft you suffer a -1 to your initiative roll so required a carrier, that then comes with a rule for aircraft with folding wings…. and only the Re2001s being carrier capable.
Now the Etna…I guess…[Read more]

Currently there is no erata… as already mentioned the rulebook hasnt been released (due end of Jan) so all we have is a Quick Start Rule booklet….
There has been feed back to warlord about typos in the cards, but the cards will just be player aids and (hopefully) over ruled by the mainbook

I’d say no official ones…. however when we get the rulebook in january you’ll be able to make up your own…
I expect to see a few mockups here or on the facebook group (Victory at sea Wardroom (unoffical))

To grow the non profit making service staff sounds nice, from asking customer’s view. But someone has to pay for it.”Free” is not really free. We all pay for it.
The profit rate in books is not high.

Yes, if you are taking a Wurttemburg division you need at least 1 Inf Bde… however Black Powder is best described as a framework rules… as they are allies I would allow you to add just the light infantry brigade with no Wurttemburg divisional commander but not allow them to benefit from the divisional commanders re-roll
Re Artillery.. yes,…[Read more]

doesnt matter if you’re a vet of a dozen battles or just out of training…. if you trying to put a handgrenade through a slit! The difference is your getting there (the order check)

Nat replied to the topic NCO as loaders in the forum Bolt Action 5 years, 2 months ago
wouldnt be the first FAQ answer that directly contradicts the rulebook…. look at the rece movement entries…. I’d take that answer as being for that unit only at best or ignore it totally at worse.
Having said that, if your gaming group is happy for your NCOs to be loaders then go for it… double penalty when the NCO is killed off by…[Read more]

Although the latest FAQ messes things up:
Regarding Compagnia Sahariana. Squads are set at an NCO and 3
men. Up to 2 men may upgrade to SMG, Up to 2 men may upgrade
to LMG. Is the NCO meant to be able to upgrade to an SMG? Also, if 2 LMGs are taken one will be automatically without a loader (unless the NCO can load)? The NCO can have one of…[Read more]

Bolt Action FAQ:
If a recce vehicle is charged by an enemy that starts the assault from within 6″, which rule takes precedence, the Surprise charge (so the vehicle cannot react with either a shooting or an escape move), or the escape reaction (so the vehicle cannot react by shooting, but can react by escaping)?
The Surprise charge takes…[Read more]

Bunch of 10 green troops manage to pass a test to assault an enemy tank.
Bunch of 10 veteran grenadiers manage to pass a test to assault an enemy tank.
According to the rules, apart from the fact the vets would be more likely to pass an order test, both are equally effective at the actual attack on the tank?
Hmmm…

SteveT started the topic Recce vehicle point blank shot in the forum Bolt Action 5 years, 2 months ago
Reasonably sure I am doing this right but …
A vehicle that has not been given no order this turn is assaulted by infantry who are under 6″ away. It cannot shoot in defence. Does a vehicle with Recce have the same restriction? I think so. The question arose as the recce vehicle was backed onto the table edge and had nowhere to run,

Bolt Action 2nd Ed page 73:
Squad-Based Team Weapons
The most common team weapon carried by the typical infantry squad is the light machine gun. If a team weapon is included in an infantry squad then one of the other infantrymen in the squad becomes its second crewman, for example, a Bren gun team of firer and loader. Choose which model becomes…[Read more] -

What do you all think? Could a squad’s NCO double up as a loader for a support weapon that is part of the squad?
(Question arose when making SNLF Grenadiers. Wanted a compact 3 mortar group which needs 6 men of course, but would. it need a 7th for the NCO or could he just be a loader.)
Cheers

Master Chief replied to the topic Unit cards in the forum Bolt Action 5 years, 2 months ago
Warlord Games “toyed” with the idea of decks some time back, selling separate decks for Allied and Axis vehicles. Sales were probably bad and so the decks were discontinued. Now vehicle (and some artillery units like the German 88) cards are included in their packages, but as far as I know there are none for infantry units.

Steeljackal replied to the topic Ambush timing in the forum Bolt Action 5 years, 2 months ago
Again, it’s not that simple in my opinion.
The regulation says “… Simply move each model up to a maximum of 6 …” and in fact we can move models at different distances, passing a model in front behind or changing positions as we want, always respecting the maximum distance for each individual model.
During an ambush, one model may have traveled…[Read more] - Load More
