The Rulebook contains a ‘get you by list’ …this is rather basic
The main Japanese list is in ‘armies of Japan’ whilest its a v1 book its still the current one.

SteveT replied to the topic Starting Hungarians- which book? in the forum Bolt Action 8 months, 4 weeks ago
Each campaign book is a bit different. The early ones throw scenarios at you to pick and choose. Some campaign books present more balanced fights, while others tend to be a bit more historical you get what you get and good luck!.
Some later ones go for more a linked series feel, giving a very nice feel of events of the time. The very best on…[Read more]

Looks like some more Hungarian units incoming in the next Campaign book (Case Blue). Good, good.

SteveT replied to the topic Starting Hungarians- which book? in the forum Bolt Action 9 months ago
I wouldn’t worry about that. It is just stuff like late war tanks or specialised troops should not be in early war lists. It wouldn’t make any sense to have the end war high tech stuff steamrolling over 1941 opponents. You can always avoid even these few restrictions if you go down the generic reinforced platoon rule that can include pretty m…[Read more]

@Jermaine
Bolt Action is written as Rulebook + ‘armies of … ‘ plus one campaign book/ series.
Each campaign book /seriers (like Italy or DDay) are written as if the others dont exist*…. this means there may be some perculair interactions if you do use them together. However having said that most (but not all) units will have comments a…[Read more]

The new units in the Budapest book can be used in the Theatre Selectors in the Italy and Axis book, but some can only be used in later war ones.
It’s a good book, gives you some nice options.
3 new theatre selectors too:
Carpathian Mountains Border Guards Reinforced Platoon
Assault Artillery Battery Armoured Platoon
Hungarian Armoured Field…[Read more] -

You need the Italy and Axis book. The Budapest is scenarios plus a few new units.

Nat replied to the topic Commissar?? in the forum Bolt Action 9 months, 1 week ago
No, remove models is a specific step that occurs after taking casulties.
You make your green check at the taking casulty step, so therefore the commissar bypasses this. However you havent suffered any casulties, therefore you can still take your green check if you then get shot later in the game.

Thanks Stuart. Replacing them with unarmed seems a bit silly. No pistols for you!

SteveT started the topic One-shot flamethrowers in the forum Bolt Action 9 months, 1 week ago
The German book has the option of a flamethrower team being repack with 2 one-shot weapons.
Now, it would seem from the rules that when the flamethrower is use in a one-shot way, the figure might still remain on the table. But unarmed (?) in this case.
Alternatively, I could see how the rules for depleted flamethrowers means the figure is…[Read more]

Yes, I have based my Napoleonic light horse with 4 horses, 5 for heavy so you can immediately see what is what. For ACW 4 seems good.

<p style=”text-align: center;”>I used the three bases but spread the figures out a little so that they wouldn’t look too cramped.</p>

SteveT replied to the topic Epic frontages in the forum Black Powder 9 months, 3 weeks ago
Thanks Al. So when you did the ACW at 3 bases, did you use 3 bases for cavalry too? How about artillery, did you go 1 or 2 bases per “unit”?
Cheers

Big Al replied to the topic Epic frontages in the forum Black Powder 9 months, 3 weeks ago
If you read the rules, you will see that only a single unit can contact any one side of a unit! So the difference in unit frontage doesn’t matter. There are occasions where that doesn’t apply, but it always applies if it is the two smaller frontage units that are charging.
the occasion when it doesn’t apply is when a larger unit charges into…[Read more]

Yes, another questions about frontages..
According to the new “epic” booklet, atypical cavalry unit would have a smaller frontage than a standard infantry unit. (3 bases to 4). I thought the idea of BP was to ideally have units with matching frontages? (Otherwise what happens when 2 cavalry hit 1 infantry’s front… seems to have a game effect…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic Rules Question: Hitting squad behind hard cover. in the forum Bolt Action 9 months, 3 weeks ago
The answer is simple – game balance (it stops you poking one guy out with say a rifle to put a pin on a unit while keeping the rest untouchable.) and to help (as the rulebook says it the same paragraph) give the impression that everything /model is fluid and in motion…
DOWN is the representation of infantrymen not moving and hiding…[Read more]
