Nat replied to the topic Defeating the Japanese? in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 2 months ago
Can spearman attack a tank.
Yes, if they banzai they auto pass their tank fear check… however once they get there, can they hurt it?…
They need to hit (1 dice each..and if you moved* they need 6s, otherwise 4s – unless you run then it’s impossible to hit) each hit is +1 pen but limited to a single superficial hit on the tank at best…and…[Read more]

following up from @Nanashi’s points
Mess his plans up…..
Cheep forward deploying units to run behind his spearmen – the Banzai rule says towards the closest visable unit (yes that includes the tank that they cant hurt & inexperienced artillery spotters :p) & spearmen have a 360 arc of sight. So if he wants them to move forward he needs to…[Read more] -

CoE page 71 2nd paragraph under the Cavalry heading…. … it allows you to split any unit with that rule to smaller units.

invisible officer replied to the topic Indirect fire from moving vehicle in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 3 months ago
Well, in our home games nobody would use indirect fire from a moving vehicle. You have to stop and do the ranging process if you do not intent to wate amo by putting the rounds far away from target.
In real world indirect fire the smallest change of barrel to the side or up and down would have big effect. Even streets are not so smooth to a…

Charge The Guns replied to the topic regiment vs battalion cost in the forum Black Powder 3 years, 3 months ago
Hi Richard – short answer: For Napoleonics you pay for a battalion, as in BP the basic infantry ‘unit’ on the table represents a battalion.
Long Answer!
Regiments and battalions can be confusing and sometimes we use the term interchangeably which can lead to further confusion. Typically a Regiment was an army organisational unit that cont…[Read more]

Still amazes me how I seem to find questions I can’t answer in the rules…
I know you can’t move a fix weapon with Advance and then Fire.
But I am not sure about firing a howitzer from a tank? I think its ok?
How about a mortar that is part of the weapons of a halftrack?
Thanks

Charge The Guns replied to the topic Stands per unit in the forum Black Powder 3 years, 3 months ago
Hi Richard, the Black Powder rules don’t operate on ‘stands’. The rules differentiate units in to Small, Regular and Large. All units have to fit in to into one of these categories. You need to decide a rough frontage for each size of unit, and the only key thing is to make sure both sides in a a battle have roughly the same frontage for each si…[Read more]

SteveT replied to the topic Japanese Banzai from a Transport in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 3 months ago
Rules are pretty clear . No assaults from vehicles
Under DISMOUNTING FROM TRANSPORTS
“Although a unit can use a Run action to dismount from a vehicle, it is not allowed to use this move to make an assault upon an enemy in the same turn”

Nat replied to the topic Japanese Banzai from a Transport in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 4 months ago
Key point here….units must be on the board to be able to draw LoS, if you arent able to draw LoS at the start of the order you arent able to declear an assault – same reason as why you cant assault from outflank or reserves…

Banzai is just variant of a RUN order. Passengers can’t run into combat from a vehicle.

Nat replied to the topic Homebrew unit: Volksturm Panzerfaust Squad in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 4 months ago
@Nanashi – one shot (or limited number of shot) weapons dont have to be used when a unit fires, nor do they have to fire at the same target….
From the ONE SHOT rules. (sorry cant give a pg ref)
“If a unit of infantry includes a proportion of men armed with one-shot weapons, then each of these models is allowed to direct its fire against a…[Read more] -

It’s all personal but I’m pretty happy with a 6×4 mat.
If you dig into the scenarios provided, there’s no need to go further for standard games but if it suits you to go big with custom scenario you can use more space.
One option is to get two mats that can be used side by side with one being see/ocean while the other is inland with one of the…[Read more]

invisible officer replied to the topic Multi Launcher – Line of Sight or Spotter in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 4 months ago
From first BA that question came again and again. Naturally Katyusha units and Nebelwerfer used spotters. Not wasting amo firing blind in indirect fire.
The rule writers tried to make the Multi launchers weaker for game reasons but in reality a Feuerschlag from a Werfer Regiment was devastating. Round 1 – Game end. Just a few surv…[Read more]

Hmmm, sorry to say but that Volkssturm pistol stuff is historical fantasy.
Being and old professional historian and worse, from Berlin, I spoke for museum with many former Volkssturm men and former boys. Pistols had been relatively rare and got used by NCO and officers and MG teams as secondary arms.
The pics showing organised Volkssturm…[Read more]

The French formed for example provisional Regiments of horse like 1st – 3rd Cuirassiers . Formed from escadrons drawn away from regular units. The 1st later became the 13th Cuirassier. At first the men wore the uniforms from the one they came from. Only at next replacement they got new dress.
Same with 1st – th Prov. Drag.
Same with inf…[Read more]

invisible officer replied to the topic Oil Washes on Historical Miniatures? in the forum Black Powder 3 years, 4 months ago
I use oil washes for decades now, never using a tutorial. Just because I started long before Internt time.
And there are many different ways. For example I prime and paint in acryl and then use fitting oil colours or a wash. For brown a Kasslerbrown, for blue a black or dark blue one. And later setting lights, mostly by acryl.

Very nice collection you have here.
I’m not sold on the practical aspect of the magnet but I can’t deny how tremendous it is when it comes to give a cinematic feel on the pictures.
Really great work you did.
