Yeah, sadly the resurrected forum is kinda the red-headed step child of WG’s attention it seems. Or the two-headed step child.

When the new forum was launched there’s been a thread about people asking for improvements, but there’s been no chance since the new fourm’s been launched.

I like forums, and it would be great for having Warlord Games have forums. But it should be proper forums. With edit buttons and such. I think this really, really needs a software upgrade or something.

You, Sir, are a man of great taste in skeletons. Best skeleton warriors I know. I’d love for those to get re-released. Of course they’d be a whole lot more expensive then, but at least them (and other WGF fantasy figures) would be available again.

    Yeah, Photobucket are complete goons.

Thing is, this forum uses different software, so no BBS codes. 🙂 If you use the buttons above the composer window you’ll see the kind of code used. It’s “the other one”, with the weird brackets and all. Just different code, no idea why this is the one they go with, but it’s easy to look up.

Very nice (and great photos too!). Pike formations in 28mm do kinda look nice…

There is an option to attach photos to the forums directly, but they may not be larger than 512kB. I’d use an external picture hoster such as imageshack or imgur and then throw links to the pictures into the posts, surrounded by img tags (click the little button atop the composer box in which you write the postings, paste a link to your photo in there, press OK).

I’m sure the WG boys are working on making the forum a bit less ‘bare bones’ and more comfortable to use. And let’s remember that ANYTHING is better than bloody Facebook. 😉

Oh yes, I second Eumerin’s (another familiar name if I remember correctly) idea. These forums need more buttons.

Good move. It’s extra work for the mods/admins (which sucks), but I guess it was just a requirement sooner or later.

I don’t see any problem with that. Enamels (I also started painting with those), and they have their place. Anybody should give them a try at some point, just to learn their properties. That can never be a bad thing, right?

Acrylics have their pros of course. Like when you’re really drunk you can sit down and paint a little with relatively low chances of setting yourself or your surroundings on fire. :p

I have to agree with Invisible Officer there. The forum’s just back up, and yeah, it looks a bit weird, and there’s still stuff to fix and fine-tune. One of these things I very strongly believe requires tuning is any policy regarding minis from other manufacturers than WG.

A general sticky with forums rules would be nice as well, just so we know what’s what.

But yeah, that’s stuff to figure out over time. For the time being I’m very happy that the forums are back up. Once the fine-tuning is done i’m sure this can be a great place.

    Very good thread idea there.

As for your suggestions, I think it’s always well worth it going for literature which isn’t originally from the UK or the US.

    Here’s some suggestions from me:

A while ago I got into Napoleonics. As we all know it’s a period which one can read about for decades and still only scratch the surface, simply because there’s so many sources, so much to know, so much detail. For getting into the going-ons of the French army I suggest “Swords around a Throne” by John Elting.

It’s a hefty tome, with each chapter covering another aspect of the French army of the time. From the marshalls over general officer stuff, the Guard, the cavalry, infantry, artillery, military police, supply, recruitment, training and so on up to Napoleon himself and how he travelled; it’s all there. Due to what the book covers of course it doesn’t go into detail about every little regiment and such, but for getting an overview and for deepening one’s understanding of the army of the time I think it’s hard to surpass this one. If you’re in any way interested in the Grande Armée I think it’s one of the first books to get.

Now for a longer-standing passion period of mine, the Thirty Years War.

I strongly suggest “Ars Bella Gerendi” by Eduard Wagner

    null

a.k.a. “European Weapons and Warfare 1618 – 1648“. It’s not your jump-off point kind of literature on the period, but rather an illustrated guidebook about armies of the time. And this is where this volume shines – there’s a ton of illustrations in there, covering stuff like how cannons were made and transported, horse training, pike and musket drill, siege theory, all of that good stuff. It’s a great supplement to all the other books out there. We know a lot of how politics played out and where armies moved when, but, especially to wargamers, the way HOW armies were moved around is more interesting, along with all the ‘small stuff’ like how horses were fed and all of that helps getting a feel for warfare of the time.

New names? nevar! well, kinda. But my proper name’s still in there.

@Edward: Excellent choice of 10mm there. I play P&S with 10mm minis. Almost works for a full battle on a 6′ by 4′ table. 😀

Well, here’s my article about my Dark Age / Medieval village:

My Kind of Town – 28mm Medieval Village

    Some trees:
    Trees! 28mm

….and some more current stuff I made – 10mm/6mm terrain:
    6mm/10mm Terrain

Hope you like the posts. 🙂

    edit:
Oh, and I recently decided to add to my Feudal Japan terrain collection. Ordered a bunch of MDF things, almost immediately regretted it (I’m just not an MDF guy. For some things it fits, for most it requires a lot of extra work I think.), and since then try to make it prettier. Andone of you have nice ideas for scatter terrain on Feudal Japanese tables?

Well, it is good to see the forum is back. Looking forward to see8ng how well it works this time around. I have to say that I am disappointed that so many of the old posts have been lost, but never mind.

You all know me and I am back with the new forum.

    Enjoy!

Looks very bare-bones in general at this point. Are there any of the old posts left at all?

Great to see the forums back up, looking forward to some good info and banter.
