This may be covered in a topic before, but since I can’t get the forum system to search for it, I’m asking about the War Dogs. Specifically, if you choose to have 2 or more teams, do they have to stay within 1 inch of each other, or can they spread out over the table? Also, with the extra selection attribute, does that mean you can get a War D…[Read more]

Mark Turnbull started the topic "To Kill a King" and "Bad Blood" Rule in the forum Pike & Shotte 2 years, 3 months ago
“To Kill a King” mentions a “Bad Blood” rule. I can find no explanation of this rule. Is this a variation of the “Bad War” rule involving the Irish and Clansmen instead of Landsknechts?

Mark Turnbull started the topic Hedges and Line of Sight in the forum Pike & Shotte 2 years, 3 months ago
The “To Kill a King” supplement has a lot of scenarios with substantial amounts of hedges. The book covers movement and combat effects, but nothing regarding line of sight. I have not see these country hedges in person. In online pictures (nearly 300 years after the fact) these hedges seem tall and thick. How should they be treated regarding line of sight?

Howdy Donald Linn! I’ve noticed some of the folks I game with are hyper-aggressive, which is easy to do since minis don’t bleed. I’ll try to field “assault” squads that are mostly armed with SMGs and STGs. Then I’ll have a “support” squad, armed with 2 LMGs and rifles, that’ll stand-off in good cover and provide long-range fire….

James Figiel started the topic Midway Scenario Table in the forum Combined Arms 2 years, 3 months ago
The rules specify to use the Midway Starter set’s Scenario table to determine the type of BRS battle you need to play. I don’t have the midway starter set. Is the scenario table published anywhere? Thanks

Jermaine, I hear what you are saying. However, what if a player gets an exceptional damage roll with normal fire from a unit like an infantry squad? The player gets all excited about his very lucky roll, but only to have his lucky roll nullified by, “a loader to become a firer”. Of course, they are going to think, “what’s the point?” Also, as…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic How many times can a unit fire in one full game turn? in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 4 months ago
pg 55, if you conduct traversing fire you cant then conduct closing fire (points 2 & 3)
So yes its once per player turn (or twice per round / game turn)

All the national, unit and theater rules in campaign books have ALWAYS been TO/Opponents permission only… people just dont play it that way.
Tiger Fear is still a mess and should be binned… personally I’d change it to a reserve rolls modifier for western allies vehicles only
Tank riders – TBH its a free rule, and gamers are finding…[Read more]

New errata dropped today.
It’s up to 46 pages now
New generic transports are neat and welcome.
The Case Blue national rules being permission only is a big bummer. I’m not sure where this puts the minor Axis powers now.
Hungarian cavalry can charge now. Great!
German stuff got tweaked and more expensive
British got a new LMG team?

The trick is to stay more than 24″ away from people that don’t use LMGs 🙂 . They soon learn why real armies used them…..

Here is a wee suggestion- we often play on an 8 by 6 (feet!) table. This makes an enormous difference to the effectiveness of MMGs, and lessens the effect of snipers. You do need to tweak the scenarios a little to account for the longer distances. It also makes transport much more useful.
We also house rule that snipers can’t kill a 3 man weapon…[Read more]

The visibility from transport has just been changed in the Feb 2024 FAQ. Previously you could see out based on Sept 2022 FAq.This is now a moot point. However, just want to say there are cases where national rules or a character isticoverwrite core rules. For example Fanatic meaning a unit doesn’t test morale when losing half of its models.

I know, I know – you’re all thinking “just once, derrrr!”
So try this.
- A unit of arty fires in its fire phase (shot 1)
- In the enemy initiative phase a light cav unit charges across the front of the same arty and so catches some traversing fire (shot 2)
- Then, in the enemy order phase an infantry unit charges the guns and catches closing…

It goes against the written rule to allow Banzai to assault…. irrespective of the WHY, the rule is clear, NO assaults from a transport. There has to be an EXPLICT rule saying this rule allows these models to assault from a transport to over ride the rulebook and allow it….
Section – Dismounting from a transport (sorry only have a ebook to p…[Read more]
