This may be covered in a topic before, but since I can’t get the forum system to search for it, I’m asking about the War Dogs. Specifically, if you choose to have 2 or more teams, do they have to stay within 1 inch of each other, or can they spread out over the table? Also, with the extra selection attribute, does that mean you can get a War D…[Read more]

Since the penetration was 11, and the armor was 8, wouldn’t there have been 2 rolls to damage?
?

“An infantry squad of 12 men with anti tank grenades charged a stationary 8+ armor tank. He rolled 11 4’s, 5’s, and 6’s for a total of an 11 penetration. He then made a roll to damage and rolled a 1.”
The second sentence threw me, as he said the roll was damage, not to penetrate. So, 11 + 1, yes penetration failed.

A 1 on the Damage Table doesn’t “miss”. The crew is stunned and the vehicle is Down for the remainder of that turn. (Per the Damage Results on Vehicles pg 226 of the main Rule book.

It’s the One-Shot Weapon rule, pg 72 of the main rule book. As I read it, it works like a Panzerfaust: once expended the soldier then uses his other weapons (if any).

Greg replied to the topic Rules Question: Hitting squad behind hard cover. in the forum Bolt Action 9 months ago
My gaming buddies & I play in tournaments as we can, so we try to stick with the rules per the books & the Errata. We found a while back that getting used to house rules would bite us on the behind at tourney.

It’s a “Beer and Pretzels” game, designed to be played in 2 or 3 hours so it simplifies many things. Getting into the minutia of battle would give you a game that takes days to play and isn’t a whole lot of fun.

It counts as your tank or SP gun selection. Crew figures are irrelevant, but scenic. Multiple Rocket launcher, counts as a heavy mortar but never gets any better than a 6 to hit. Any unit within 6 inches of the target (that isn’t inside the Katyusha minimum range) is also attacked.

Greg replied to the topic Rules Question: Hitting squad behind hard cover. in the forum Bolt Action 9 months ago
Yes, it’s possible though somewhat improbable. If the vehicle didn’t move then the Basic To Hit Factor (THF) is 3, Point Blank modifier gives THF 2, Hard Cover Modifier gives THF 4. If it had moved the THF would be 5 (no Stabilization for the MGs). For a Regular level unit the To Kill Factor (TKF) is 4. Your HMG has a penetration modifier to…[Read more]

I asked this question several years ago. Here’s Lorenzo Pala’s reply:
Good afternoon. Yes you can decide to fire with the rifles instead. No, the whole squad fires at the same target. Kind regards, LorenzoOn

Greg replied to the topic Japanese Lone Sniper in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 6 months ago
I use one occasionally. The biggest drawback I’ve found to the Lone Sniper is that if he gets hit by an arty strike or by small arms that gets a kill (but not exceptional), there’s only the sniper, no assistant to dump the kill on. He could be lost on a 6 in a preliminary bombardment for example. Just something to consider.

The LMG adds 10 pts. Cheaper & more effective as sniper IMO.

Greg replied to the topic Japanese Lone Sniper in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 6 months ago
The Lone Sniper doesn’t take the -1 for no assistant as he is not a Team element. He also ignores the 1st pin he might have in the orders phase.
As an LMG, he takes the -1 for no assistant. No exceptional hits (unless you roll 6 twice to damage). Range is the same as any other LMG. No benefits.
Better to use him as Sniper.

Greg started the topic Cavalry with submachine guns in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 4 months ago
The Armies of the Soviet Union book list Cavalry Squad with the option of equipping each soldier with a submachine gun. My question is: Do the sub guns fire as normal while mounted? Cavalry lists in all the other books I have seen only refer to the Cavalry carbine being fired as a pistol while mounted. I would think the submachine guns are…[Read more]

Greg replied to the topic Define "Short Range" in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 5 months ago
Thanks for the clarification. The narrative mentions point blank, but I’ve learned to ignore the narratives as the actual rules and characteristics don’t follow them.

In the Armies of the Soviet Union book, the M42 Anti-tank gun gets a +1 to its penetration at short range. Is that Point Blank? Or whatever isn’t long range?

There’s also the Nationalist Chinese sniper (Sgt Tung I think), who is also alone sniper & kills on a 2 no matter the targets skill level!
