  • Is everyone going out to buy a few M51’s??

Got to be the bargain of the year, 24 shots (YES’ 24 SHOTS!!!) with a +1 penetration all for 135 pts. And the good news is that under this crazy new force selection system you can field 4 of these ultimate killing machines. They soon make short work of any infantry or soft skins daft enough to poke a…[Read more]

Yes – its a massive change.

Basically if its firing indirect and not inexperience or a multi-launcher then it can draw LoS for ANY/ALL spotters or Observers (no distinction between air or artillery).  You need to loose LoS from ALL possible spotters (or just receive an order by any means other than FIRE!) to reset the range in score.

  • The rules and the errata seem quite clear on this so I’m sorry to ask for reassurance but I just want to be clear. If you have a FAO or a spotter, any number of regular or veteran indirect firing weapons can use them see a target to fire at and do so during the same turn and at different targets the FOA and spotter might see? And this is also the…[Read more]

We apparently should here something in mid December (adepticon)!

There’s been a few articles about industry names joining the K47 writing team over the last few months (3 or 4 IIRC).

    hmm…

The generic platoon structure of v3 is actually easier to create actual historical TOEs for more nations than the v2 one did.  Its a generic ones size fits all starting point.

Where the v2 TLs fall down is the attachment of units that werent placed under infantry command as regularly as BA shows it.  Yes there was cases were a single t…[Read more]

I agree with Steve (see above). If you are interested in more historical realism, then just use the existing Theater Selectors. By why stop there! You can easily use actual historical military organizations as well. That is the nice thing about BA. You can use what they give you, or simply use actual historical settings and/or organizations…[Read more]

If  you are interested in more historical realism—in as much as that is possible on a tabletop game—then just use the existing Theatre Selectors and any associated rules. The “lego” platoons, old and new,  are better suited for competitive play.

With regard to building forces for V3 of Bolt Action, I wish the rules had preserved the old “reinforced” platoon as an option in conjunction with the new options of additional platoons.  Both seem to make sense to me.  I can see a platoon being given a mission with a “special unit” attached to provide some needed capabilities.  I can also see an…[Read more]

However they included the Dutch(!)  I’ve seen Australian & Canadian armies … heard of Chinese lists but never heard of someone making  / seen pictures of a Dutch army…. <shrugs>

Also yeah… I preferred it as cover as a shooting mod…

  • SteveT replied to the topic Missing troops in V3 in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 8 months ago

Perhaps they felt those omissions were too rarely used to be included?

But for me, any game that has this sequence has lost credibility anyway:

Step 1:  I have hit you

Step 2:  I have killed you

Step 3:   You are ‘unkilled’ because you are behind a wall and ‘saved’. But that means I didn’t hit you because the wall got in the way…

    You can sa…[Read more]

  • @ Donald, that’s not what he’s asking.  He’s asking whether the rest of the spotter rules apply to the forward observers, such as counting as Down when they don’t have an order.  The answer is no.  Spotters and the forward observers are two distinct entities in Bolt Action, with their own rules, just in third edition they overlap in being able to…[Read more]

  • On Page 114, it clearly states that “friendly units using the Indirect Fire Rule can draw line of sight from your forward observers.” This is amplified in the FAQ as well

  • Nat replied to the topic Missing troops in V3 in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 8 months ago

yes the ball WAS dropped with campaign units and equipment… the impression we got was they were going to be folded into the core rules 🙁

It seems that people think that they’ll be included in the armies of … books – I think thats a bit silly as they’ll be back to repeating rules in different books which increases the chance of differeing…[Read more]

  • I am very surprised that the following  troops are not mentioned in V3 . I know that they were added in some of the later Campaign books but surely this was the time to make them readily available to all.

And now that the 3rd ed. Bolt Action rules have been released (and I’m flipping through the copy I bought), I am thinking of trying to do some rules converting from K’47 into 3rd ed.
We do have an active Bolt Action player base in this city’s wargamers assossiation for helping out, after all.

  • They are not spotters. Their rule does not even suggest they act as spotters, it just says friendly units using indirect fire can draw line of sight from the observer.  The spotter rules mention forward observers in brackets for one spotter related rule – that doesn’t make them spotters, it just shows they act the same for that one rule.

  • Hi,

I was wondering if a Forward obeserver counts “fully” as a Spotter as described at p. 102 of the V3 rulebook. It is stated that Spotters always count as “Down” when without an order dice, as they would spend most of their time lying down.

It stands to reason that forward artillery/naval/airbone observers would do the same. Any opinion?
