  • If you check page 69 of the German Army book 2nd Ed, the 233 is a variant for the 231. Hence it should be available wherever you can select a 231.

  • I just saw this in Bolt Action 2nd Ed page 57:

TROOPS, SOFT-SKINNED AND ARMOURED TARGETS (last paragraph)

Small-arms and light automatic weapons such as rifles, submachine guns and light or medium machine guns don’t add a bonus to damage. This means it is it is impossible to score more than 6 when rolling to damage using these weapons.

    I t…[Read more]

  • it doesnt state that small arms cant generate more than 1 pin or have a PEN value, the rule book only states that heavy weapons do and so implies that small arms cant..

    Pin markers (Page 39)

Every time a unit is fired at by an enemy unit and suffers one or more hits as a result, place a single pin marker next to it.

    Small arms weapons follow…[Read more]

  • re pins – the number of PINs a RGA generates are by the HE rule, so there is nothing to stop a small arms weapon giving multiple PINs

Small arms fire is unable to generate multiple pins with a single shot.

re page 56, that says all heavy weapons have a PEN mod, not that only heavy weapons can have a PEN mod, also again the RGA doesn have a PEN v…

    PINNED (page 39)

In the case of some particularly heavy weapons two or more pin markers can sometimes be scored against a target in one go.

    ROLL TO DAMAGE (page 56)

Heavy weapons add a modifier to the damage roll, allowing for a score of greater than 6.

  • Don’t think of the Kradschützen unit as operating on its own. You will need to come up with a “strategy” to use them in conjunction with your other units to achieve the scenario objectives. This will depend on the objective, the terrain, etc.

Motorbikes are generally treated as units of infantry except where noted…[Read more]

  • In general I think this is true for any unit that advances first into enemy territory, although some might have the benefit of cover as you have mentioned. You could consider laying some smoke to cover your kradschuetzen’s advance. Or you could use HE to pin the intended target before moving up you kradschuetzen. Otherwise you could also use your…[Read more]

  • Bolt Action latest FAQ:

When allocating orders out by using an officer’s ‘You men, snap to action’ special ability, can I allocate Order dice to other officers’ teams within range? If so, can these other officers also then in turn use their ‘You men, snap to action’ special ability to order more units within range (including potentially…[Read more]

  • In both cases the steps should be:

    (1) roll to hit

    (2) for each hit, roll to damage, adding the weapon’s Pen value and checking against the Damage Value Table. For HE, place template with vehicle on the center. This is done as the template might also cover nearby units which will be hit.

    (3) for all hits that do damage, roll against the Damage…[Read more]

The spotter and the crew are treated entirely separately in other respects – as if they were two units – and the spotter is not taken into account when it comes to determining whether the weapons
team or artillery piece is destroyed. Should his associated weapons
team or artillery piece be destroyed then the spo…[Read more]

  • Bolt Action 2nd Ed page 131:

Hidden units remain hidden until one of the following happens:
    • The hidden unit is ordered to Fire, Advance or Run.
An enemy unit scores a hit on the hidden unit (other than preparatory bombardment).
    • An enemy infantry or artillery unit moves to (or is set up) within 12”.
    • An enemy recce vehicle moves to ([Read more]

  • My understanding is that the motar’s firing on the same target must be continuous in order for the ranging to stay in effect.

If the spotter moved the following turn, it means the mortar did not fire that “following turn”, so the ranging should reset to 6 to hit.

  • Bolt Action 2nd Ed page 71:

    SPOTTERS

During a turn either the weapon crew can be given an order or the spotter can be given an order – but never both.

    INDIRECT FIRE

In the following turn, if the shooter fires at the same target unit, and if the shooter has not moved from their position (i.e. it receives a Fire order), and if the target u…[Read more]

Although the latest FAQ messes things up:

Regarding Compagnia Sahariana. Squads are set at an NCO and 3
men. Up to 2 men may upgrade to SMG, Up to 2 men may upgrade
to LMG. Is the NCO meant to be able to upgrade to an SMG? Also, if 2 LMGs are taken one will be automatically without a loader (unless the NCO can load)?

If a recce vehicle is charged by an enemy that starts the assault from within 6″, which rule takes precedence, the Surprise charge (so the vehicle cannot react with either a shooting or an escape move), or the escape reaction (so the vehicle cannot react by shooting, but can react by escaping)?

    Squad-Based Team Weapons
The most common team weapon carried by the typical infantry squad is the light machine gun. If a team weapon is included in an infantry squad then one of the other infantrymen in the squad becomes its second crewman, for example, a Bren gun team of firer and loader. Warlord Games “toyed” with the idea of decks some time back, selling separate decks for Allied and Axis vehicles. Sales were probably bad and so the decks were discontinued. Now vehicle (and some artillery units like the German 88) cards are included in their packages, but as far as I know there are none for infantry units.

  • Master Chief replied to the topic Ambush timing in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 6 months ago

I see what you mean, but why would it have to end its move in a line? Perhaps the men at the back have more movement left and so they all end up in a blob across the road.

The first model to be moved should be the one furthest upfront. Assume it was stopped by an Ambush attack after moving 4 inches, all other models have to be moved 4 inches to…[Read more]

  • Master Chief replied to the topic Ambush timing in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 6 months ago

Yes, but lets say a more devious opponent can then string out his men in a line to avoid the HE template doing as much damage, whereas they started in a clump and intended to end in a clump.

Assuming that happens and the entire unit survives the HE attack, it will have to continue its remaining move in a line, because each model will now be…[Read more]
