Got a reply from Rick. I don’t think he’d mind me posting it here. Nice answer I thought.
– basically – you can’t be in a wood unless you are in open order –on page 38 – Woods. Most formed units require a move to change formation (formed light units can do so as part of a normal move but cannot charge at the same time) p36. Aside from skirmish…[Read more] -

I think they should take a leaf out of the Victory at sea book…where you set a year for your game..
that way you can put tiger fear as a national rule instead of a vehicle rule – ie 1944 & 1945 applys to all medium and heavy tanks
just an idea for v3….:p

SteveT replied to the topic Is Hail Caesar dying? in the forum Hail Caesar 5 years, 5 months ago
Yes, I think it might be partly due to the fact that Warlord don’t rules the ancients’ wargaming world. Might change as they bring out more figures? I am so late to the party that I would’ve expected more presence here, on what must surely be the main forum for the game?
I think the strength of the openness of the Hail Caesar rules (and Black…[Read more]

The rules are just one side, the problem for the Forum are the miniatures. The Warlord ancients are good but there are other companies with very good ancients. In old Forum that was no problem. We could show them too.
Last week I had a bigger battle setting on my table. But Punic wars – so not Warlord. And my EIR are metal, pre Warlord era…[Read more]

Based on how few respond here, my suspicion is it might have fallen out of fashion. Bolt Action gets responses in moments sometimes.

SteveT replied to the topic How to use tank damage marker in the forum Bolt Action 5 years, 5 months ago
I assumed this:
Orange for burning vehicles
Black for knocked out, destroyed
White for placing indirect fire markers, barrage markers, etc.

Nat replied to the topic Pintle mounted Bren – bren carrier in the forum Bolt Action 5 years, 5 months ago
The crew of a transport can use 1 weapon per order…any others need to be used by the tranported squads (note if the squad cant shoot such as medics then they cant use the transports weapons).
It doesnt matter which weapon the tranport crew use… and can change between orders..
If the weapon is attached to the vehicle then its left with the…[Read more]

Good point about open order not being able to get support. And the formation change would slow them down.
But yes, as. I think you have surmised, under the rules as I understand them, a Roman legion would not only be uncaring of lighter troops in the woods, but would actively hunt them down!
I want a set of rules to be consistent, at least…[Read more]

SteveT replied to the topic Painting face camouflage in the forum Bolt Action 5 years, 5 months ago
I wouldn’t use a wash or that will seep into the recesses, whereas the camo should deliberately cover the ‘sticky out bits’. I would simply use straightforward painting, since this also mirrors the application process.

Hello! Thanks for your reply. You approached this the same way I did (at first) until I realise the HC rules differ from BP/P&S in one aspect: most units (not elephants and chariots) can enter open order to go into woods. As far as I can tell, this just makes them into giant skirmisher units, with no penalty not already applied to any other l…[Read more]

Seems odd that nobody can answer this!
To restate this: What advantages to lighter troops have over heavy troops in forests? I can see none. This is not realistic.

SteveT started the topic Excess casualties in the forum Hail Caesar 5 years, 5 months ago
If I understand it right, excess casualties are only removed after a break test.
So if you win a hand-to-hand fight you are not triggered to do a break test even if your casualties surpass your stamina? Is that right?
If right, they therefore keep any excessive casualties?
Very confusing.

Thinking about this more….since the heavy infantry would also be in open order in the woods, then other open order units would not be running rings around them :p

Very little description in the rules for these. Do they take the same order as their parent unit?

The FAQ is whats been said here and on the FB page…but focused on what has been released (ie the rules manual currently)… which is why theres some things (the Agano class cruisers traits* for example) that arent in it…
Now by Matts own admission the ability to put flights to scout is in the main rulebook and not in the QSR….and goes…[Read more]

Hi all,
As we’re waiting for the full rulebook to be released, those of us on the facebook group the (Victory at Sea Wardroom) have put together an FAQ with some of the answers comming from the design studio and others from the original Author.
Whilst its unoffical as we’re not Warlord staff we hope that it helps!
Thanks to Craig the webmaster…[Read more]
