If I understand it right, excess casualties are only removed after a break test.

So if you win a hand-to-hand fight you are not triggered to do a break test even if your casualties surpass your stamina? Is that right?

If right, they therefore keep any excessive casualties?

    Very confusing.

Hi Steve, there is a slight difference to ‘excess hits’ i.e. those beyond stamina in HC. See bottom of p70. Worth noting that units suffering twice their stamina, and losing a combat, are ‘shattered’ and in effect auto break. Also worth noting that excess hits go on to the supporting units. We have found it can be very dangerous to try and save a poor unit losing a fight, particularly with your good units as the supports can end up taking lots of excess hits.

Once all of this has been taken account of then any excess ‘hits’ are ‘removed’. That is to say, your unit would be shaken, and if it survives the break test, or doesn’t need to take a test, it carries on. The hits are being used to work out winners and losers, and to alter the break test result. They are not meant to directly represent casualties, just the effect of casualties.

    Hope this helps.
