The enemy’s shot is then resolved as normal. If the target has moved out of range or sight then the unit shoots and automatically misses. Note that if firing at a recce vehicle with HE, decide to escape or not right before t…[Read more]

  • So we are looking at.

Firing – work out range /mods etc

roll to hit – calculate number of hits.

PINs – work out and apply number of pins

Flamethrower moral check – moral check on target

Damage – multiply flamethrower hit out to number of damage rolls required.

roll number of hits to see if damage is caused

    -remove casualties (remembering…[Read more]

  • The british AWI battalion sized “regiment” had 10 companies, including a light and a grenadier one.

    so 10 % should be light, from 30 that’s 3.

    —-

My own AWI are 4 cm and I play in a 1 to 1 rato. With the small number of effectives no problem, a company often fielden just 30 – 2 OR.

  • Yes I can see that reading, but it can also be read the other way … a flamethrower hit always requires a morale check (even if there were no casualties), and if the attack causes the target to take 50% or more casualties, the target takes another morale check.

  • Not AWI, but Napoleonics… I’ve got for my french i’ve got 4 Light, 4 Grenadiers & a 4 strong command party (flag, officer, muscian & soldier).  Then the rest of the unit (4 in a small, 12 in a normal, 20 in a large unit) are all standard guys.

My Napoleonic russians who are slightly different in that their line regiments where 4 companies, 3…[Read more]

  • I’ve always read it that the flamethrower basically counts it as if the target has lost 50%+ of the unit even if they hadnt (or are a vehicle)… IE just the 1 moral check.

  • There is a slight modification in the FAQs:

Page 67, Flamethrower special rule, last paragraph on page. The first sentence should be changed to read as follows:

A unit hit by a flamethrower must check its morale once firing has been worked out and pin markers allocated, as described above.

  • I had always read the rule as a modification to point 7 of the shotting procedure “target checks morale”
    “…
    SHOOTING
    SHOOTING PROCEDURE
    1. Declare target
    2. Target reacts
    3. Measure range and open fire
    4. Roll to hit
    5. Roll to damage
    6. Target takes casualties
    7. Target checks morale
    …”

not that it counted as an additional moral test “…The…[Read more]

  • Yes you roll D6 to determine the number of hits. In your example you get 4 hits, so roll 4D6 with Pen +3, and each 8+ scores 1 damage. For each damage roll on the vehicle damage table to determine its effect.

  • Yes I think that is correct.

  • Battle of the Bulge page 25:

Aside from the exceptions detailed below, the Intelligence Officer is not a separate unit choice but an optional upgrade for an officer unit. Whereas the standard officer unit is allowed to be accompanied by up to 2 further men, the Intelligence Officer counts as a separate upgrade; in effect, a fourth man.

    Based on…[Read more]

  • Unless you were targeting the building …

If I recall correctly you can only target a building if it is empty. If there is an enemy unit inside you need to fire at that unit.

Unless you were targeting the building (pointless with most mortars as you need 10+ hits to hurt the building) then yes you need to start again as the target units foot print has moved more than 2″

  • For me it was interesting reading.

Not my view on the world but interesting to see that others have problems that are none for me.

@Jacob Carter – that squad entry is also found in the ‘Campaign: battle of the bulge’ book and doesnt really over ride the paratroopers entry in the ‘armies of …’ book as it covers the change of TOE they had during the war.  Just like the British Armies of book has two paratrooper entries

Its PAratrooper (late war) and should only be used…[Read more]

So a few examples to help Stiener out..

example 1, small arms v softskin – roll to hit as normal, on hit apply 1 pin, roll to wound, on a 6 roll a D6 on the damage chart (no mods)

example 2, HMG v soft skin – roll to hit, if 1+ hit apply 1 pin, roll as many hits to wound, each 5+* is a roll on the damage chart (no mods)

*ie after apply the HMGs…[Read more]

Hi both welcome to the wonderful game!

The lists in the rulebook are a ‘get you by’ lists and are superseded by the ‘armies of…’ books.  IE if you have both ignore the lists in the rulebook.

Some units have entries in campaign books and not the armies of ..’ books so dont worry if people mention stuff you dont have rules for (check out…[Read more]
