Steeljackal replied to the topic Ground Scale in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 10 months ago
<p style=”text-align: left;”>But BA is not so abstract in ground and miniatures scale. A building represent a building, not a whole village. in fact the regulation says to draw line of sight and measure fire range from the single windows, not from the building as an abstract and symbolic representation of a building or set of buildings. each…[Read more]

Hi Nigel,
re frontage yes in line they would have the same frontage, ie small unit of 8 models of Cav take up the same foot print at 16 infantry. when in line.
For whats easier, depends who you are planning on playing. As IO said, ask potential opponents, you may be able to combine orders and get cheaper delivery OR they already have a force…[Read more]

If you like painting (or like me love it) 28mm has no alternative but 40mm. But if you are one of those that dislike it 15 mm, 10 or even 6 mm are good options.
I have 28 mm Napoleonics and 6 mm. In that later small scale I can field large armies in a 1/10 ratio and can use the table size better. But at the end, nothing better than the view…[Read more]

I would definitely recommend going with 15mm rather than 28mm, the key benefit is that the normal size playing area will represent significantly greater battlefield and give better games as a result, this is particularly important with respect to the depth of the table. I have been gaming with 15 mm for a long time, but if I was starting again I…[Read more]

In Peninsula the Cuirassiers give you some problems. The 13th rgt there was formed 1808 from 1st provisional rgt de Cuirassiers, a marching regiment from 1st,2nd,3rd Cuirassiers and 1st and 2nd Carabiniers. Nobody knows about a change of dress by the Carabiniers. Did they get Cuirassier stuff before leaving France? In 1809 the ragged uni…[Read more]

I agree 99%.
But would rate the Jäger much higher than Voltigeurs. They are the original Riflemen, not the Sharp copy. 😉
Voltigeurs are equal to the Light infantry battlions- And the Grenzer are a mix etween Light and Line. By 1814 all the areas lost to France and the new recruits hated the French a lot.
Not to forget, 1813/14 th…[Read more]

wow, I can’t believe Warlord is pushing this mat via email even though its inaccurate.
I do have the Gettysburg cigar box mat, but that was designed specifically for a different ruleset.

A) target is to get 5 or more… so a 4 will give you the scouting point. So if you get 1-3 re-roll the dice… if you get 1-3 again hard luck no SP for that ship.
B &C)A ship is scouting, so not available for the start of the battle, irrespective of if it gives you a scouting point or not. The only way to return it to your fleet is with e…[Read more]

Hi Arcole – it’s interesting that such a major force in the wars doesn’t have a supplement yet. There have been some plastics out for Austrians for a bit now and so with more figures on the table I expect we’ll see some unofficial lists from people soon. My own view is probably biased by being brought up on Bruce Quarrie’s Napoleon’s Campaigns i…[Read more]

Charge The Guns replied to the topic A Dark and Bloody Background in the forum Black Powder 4 years, 10 months ago
Hi Arcole – Do you mean unit size in terms of ‘small’, ‘ regular’, and ‘large’ or in terms of unit frontages, over perhaps figures? Like all of the BP games the key things is that units of the same games size (‘small’, ‘ regular’, and ‘large’) have the same frontage in both armies. How many figures you use in a unit is probably dependent on the…[Read more]

Charge The Guns replied to the topic Using BP rules with 15mm or 10mm in the forum Black Powder 4 years, 10 months ago
We used BP quite a lot for 15mm Naps and ACW. We’ve halved the number of inches (perhaps some club members don’t have rules with centimetres? 😉 ). We have never really worried about the relationship of move / weapon ranges and unit frontages. The key thing we’ve tried to do with unit frontages is have the two sides have the same basic fr…[Read more]

I play with 15mm figures and convert everything to centimetres. For the frontages I do as you suggested, convert to inches and change that to centimetres. Seems to work well. I make two other changes that work for me. With 15mm scale the normal 6×4 battlefield represents a bigger space and consequently I increase artillery ranges by 25%, as these…[Read more]

Same thing though, right? “used” could imply “Used successfully”. Otherwise future games are going to be a bonfire :p

We sure about this? I assumed the wording actually meant “Shot at” as “successfully shot at” as in “hit”.

Nat replied to the topic anti-tank suicide bombers/close assault. in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 10 months ago
@Mike, how do you get in contact with the vehicle except by assault? in game terms Assault is a type of Run Command that allows a model to by-pass the 1″ gap rule. So (Rules here) you cant get in contact with the vehicle unless you declear an assault.
So you now follow the assault rules, which include passangers bailing out in the way of th…[Read more]

Hmm, there are some units that are often mixed in lists. In June 1758 the 81st Invalids became the 71st. Blue facings. Disbanded 1769. A new 71st war raised 1775 for AWI. Fraser’s with White Facings. Post 1777 rarely with kilt. The Highland units even dropped the OR sword. Disbanded 1783.
The number was not the name. So the lienag…[Read more]

As mentioned, we have the letters, the pipers did the standard piper job of frightening the enemy and the locals. Before 1854 pipers are not sanctioned, not even in kilted units. Paid by Colonel or the officers. And so some non Highland units had some, like the 20th that had one kia at Roncevalles
The officers disliked the Horseguard pol…[Read more]
