The main problem is that the gamer has a composition option at all. So the math wizards are building unhistorical monster units.
In German army the LMG was the last weapon to drop. Every soldier was trained to serve it and most units collected more in battle. Not just the German ones but also British or Soviet. Esp. in the defensive fights of…[Read more]

Hi LT,
I’m not arguing about the definition of an LMG, MMG, GPMG or automatic rifle or what ever they are classed as. The BA rules are clear as to what is an LMG (basically the squad automatic weapon), what is an MMG and what is classed as an Automatic Rifle. That’s OK, I get that, the rules are fun and not extensive.
The point I’m trying t…[Read more]

Where is it open to interpretation? Sniper teams do not have any ‘… as depicted on the model’ in the weapon line (that’s only HQ units), they have defined weapons as allocated in the weapon line of their entry in the army list, or if the supplement author was following the rules, just the one sniper rifle same as any other team weapon. The…[Read more]

Yes, it is a very open to interpretation when they do not provided a list of option. Taking it to silly extremes, you could model a Russian sniper team with captured Panzerfausts or Assault Rifles, which might win you games but no friend :p

Howdy martyn!
It was a fair question. One a the main reasons for the development of the M1 Carbine was for weapons crews, who were generally not issued infantry rifles, to have something more effective that a pistol. In the books, HQ units generally list under Weapon; “Pistol, submachinegun, rifle or assault rifle as depicted on the model. I’…[Read more]

Howdy Ian!
On the one hand I agree with you. Machineguns DO seem somewhat under-powered in the Bolt Action world. I don’t feel it as much, since I play Germans almost exclusively. I believe the suppression-fire rules are an attempt to alleviate that. As a former machinegunner, I find it ludicrous that light, medium and heavy MGs all hav…[Read more]

I know Bolt Action is a fun game and should not be taken too seriously but one thing has been bothering me for a while. Most armies involved in WW2 evolved their small unit infantry tactics around the squad LMG. Due to the rules and cost of LMG’s very few people fighting competitive games select them, choosing to select another 2 riflemen which…[Read more]

Thanks Stuart. Once again I need to read the rules more carefully.

Weapon team members are usually not allocated weapons (exception for some nations sniper teams) as per p73, Weapons, Team Weapons, second para, last sentence. They fight with the default one attack in close quarters, and no special rules – they don’t get any benefit from what they’re modelled with.

The army lists often make reference to having the weapon the model is armed with. If they make no such reference are they unarmed? I’m thinking here of a situation when my Panzershreck team was close assaulted. One model has a SMG the other a pistol modeled. Often weapon teams will show one crew member with a weapon.

So Tiger Fear is pretty much totally neutered now. Perhaps Bolt Action 3.0 should give German players something they can actually use….

I’m trying to figure out why there is such a huge price disparity between UK prices and ROW prices.
I was hoping to purchase a couple of French Char 2C Tanks. The UK price is 55 GBP each, which is $105 AUS. The ROW price is $88 US each, which is $134 AUS. A difference in pricing of nearly $30 AUS per vehicle.

On campaign the cartridge box often had a fabric cover – often an off white or linen. Then the fusilier, grenadier, volitgeur badges would be painted on. Are they for that?
