Steve. I can see both sides of this argument, but it’d be nice if there was something that clarified it somewhere. I get your point, but that would mean the building (or unit) would have to be completely within the minimum distance before the rule applied. It seems like the rules would have said “completely” within the minimum distance, not just…[Read more]

Well if you targeted a building that is 30cm long, of which just 1cm of that building is within your minimum range, are you going to say it fails?

Howdy wAbout! Yeah, I gotta agree with you. I did a little research. The US M45 Quadmount weighs approximately 2400 lbs. Maybe a little more depending on which trailer it’s mounted on. The US M1 37mm AA gun weighs approximately 6130 lbs. and is considered a medium AA gun in Bolt Action. The US M1A1 90mm gun weighs approximately 19000 lbs.…[Read more]

I have a question about the minimum distance to fire an indirect round. I’ve tried searching the posts, but I’m not getting any results.
Page 72 of the rule book reads, “These indirect fire weapons cannot be fired at targets within their minimum range (see weapons profiles), measured from the center of the weapon itself.”
Here’s the argument.…[Read more]

erm… your auto correct needs looking at it boom CHITS … thats C not S!
However v2 as its a case of in the end phase count the number of engines you have left on the table in a squadron v the number of boom chits that the individual squadron has taken so far in the game.
eg if you have 4 single engine planes left but 3 boom chits then your…[Read more]

I’d like to clarify a point of rules . At the club, we have two versions of the demoralisation threshold for a squadron. Version 1: At the start of the game I have 6 single-engined aircraft, the demoralisation threshold will be reached when I have 6+1 boom shit registered on this squadron. Version 2: Other players have the following reading, still…[Read more]

Ah gotcha, I think my current plan is to fit a M18 into my 500 point list as a cheap order dice and HE, but on my 750 and 1000 point lists where points is less of a concern then I’ll field a M20.
I would fit a M20 in my 500 list, but it’s a little tight on points with 3 squads, (one of them vet) a vet sniper, and a heavy mortar.
Yeah I’ve heard…[Read more]

Yeah,, I think the M20 is a much better choice, especially if you can get one printed. Can even use it in an anti-tank role. We found pinning tanks up is as good as taking them out most of the time. (Just to preempt the pedants, some vehicles get a chance to ignore pins, see under Vehicles and Pinning).

Thanks Steve, that’s a good perspective. I figure on bringing a Chaffee in my 1000 point list, and 3D printing a heavy mortar. Also looking at the M20, which is basically a light howitzer as far as I can see. But it would be super easy to 3D print.
Yeah didn’t think about the rotating rule, I’ll have to keep that in mind.

@Steve T Re “However, mortars are Indirect firers so don’t need to use Advance orders to rotate, as they don’t have a facing.]” – Not sure where you’re getting that from about fixed mortars (or any indirect fire shot) not needing an advance order to get a shot into arc. They have the same requirements as any other ‘fixed’ weapons, they just…[Read more]

The M18 is indeed very cheap, and a good way to sneak in an extra order die. But in a force that lacks HE (not a criticism, just a fact since you have limited figures and points), then I am not sure a 1″ burst is going to make much of an impact in any sense.
[The med/heavy mortar and M18 all have “Fixed” meaning, amongst other things, they…[Read more]

“a light mortar that can fire directly and is 10 points cheaper. But can move and fire” – should read ‘can’t move and fire’ – the 57mm M18 has the fixed rule.

It actually looks like a pretty good deal, a light mortar that can fire directly and is 10 points cheaper. But can move and fire.

Hey guys, how does this wild idea sound?: Adding a 57mm M18 recoilless howitzer to my army. Now, it only has a pathetic 1″ HE template, but it is ONLY 30 points for an order dice, it can fire 48″ directly or up to 60″ indirectly, and since it’s so small my opponent might ignore it which will allow it to wreck his weapons teams.
And it would be…[Read more]

Oh ok, that’s an interesting perspective that I never considered, thanks.
Yeah that makes more sense, although my “USS Indianapolis 1944” is still getting it’s stern handed to it by a 50 point “Fubuki”.

Well, the long lance torpedo had a crazy long range. More than once allied forces returned to old course, thinking having succeeded in outrunning them. Then: Bang.
The rules do just reflect reality.
Playing pacific I would expect that the USN was inferior in that aspect. Late war radar and new tactics changed that. 41-43 I would expect a Ja…[Read more]
