Nothing in the rules say that they are forced to dismount, unlike say motorcycles, if in combat.
So they would stay on horseback, and therefore keep tough fighters (as that is part of cavalry being mounted)

Hi, had something come up today.
Someone tried to charge my Hungarian cavalry (they had already taken an action). Now, Hungarian cav can’t charge while mounted, but do they dismount when charged?
Would they keep Tough Fighters if they stay mounted?
Thanks

You can balance them without any rules changes at all:
Reduce their cost by 10 points.
No reduction for those mounted on vehicles (who really shouldn’t be so effective firing through slits or on the move

I would use them as a marker for when your mounted infantry are on foot.
I *think* theres more detailed rules in the ‘glory, hallelujah’ book…. but as I dont have it cant say for certain.

I get what you mean, but if you create a means for a ‘loader’ to become a ‘firer’, then the fix is on the MMG, rather than fixing Snipers.

The only thing I don’t like about MMGs and HMGs is their ability to get sniped off the table. Maybe have at least a Morale check to convert a loader to a shooter vs death
This has more to do with how snipers are used in Bolt Action rather than about MMGs or HMGs. Fixing snipers in Bolt Action is a long and complex topic for another topic h…[Read more]

I’m slowly chipping away at the Guts and Glory box. I’m finally working on Cavalry. As a practical matter. How are the dismounted horses used? Are they placed behind the dismounted soldiers as a reminder that they are cavalry? Are they purely eye candy?
Picture attached amidoinitright?

You are correct. Only the unit being assaulted can use reaction fire. The only way the other units could assist would be if they were in Ambush.

Infantry unit on a road between two buildings is assaulted by opposing infantry squad 10 inches away. The defending unit has already fired that turn so can’t react and fire. However, there are units in each of the two buildings that haven’t been in play yet that turn. Can those units fire on the assaulting unit? My reading of the rules is they…[Read more]

The unit entry is Campaign Western Desert, p92.
The unit comes with 2 sidecar combinations and 4 men. You can add two pillion passengers that go on the existing combinations. You can also add a single man on a motorbike. You can replace one man’s rifle with a LMG – that’s the only way you get an MG sidecar in the KRADSCHÜTZEN M/CYCLE SIDECAR…[Read more]

“And you left out a key sentence following the statement the crew sees what’s he sees. The next sentence explains the spotter is enabling the crew to see a target that is invisible to them .” The sentence you are referring to doesn’t introduce anything new to the rule, all it does is point out how you can benefit from being able to draw your L…[Read more]

I’m not going to debate with you any longer. I gave my take, so now it’s just beating a dead horse. I found today posts and forums around that say I’m correct and a found a couple that states they use your interpretation. Something Version 3 down the road will hopefully clarify better. All the games I’ve played and T/O , Bolt Action has the lea…[Read more]

So … a spotter costs 10 points reg or 13 points vet irrespective of the weapon they are purchased with.
For a model that cant take objectives, cant man a weapon on a transport, cant shoot, cant initiate an assault … all it can do is stop the weapon team firing or moving to move themselves & give line of sight to a specific weapon team while…[Read more]
