July 27, 2018 at 8:47 pm #142155Topic: SOPCom Entry / Diorama Category
in forum Bolt Action
Thomas DuerrschmidtParticipantHello,
this is my entry for the painting Competition. A small diorama showing an IS2-Tank smashing a German position somewhere on the eastern Front, March 1945. I´ve completed the diorama today and I will show also some WIP-pics.
I used the plastic IS-2 from Warlord games, painted it with a color modification set from AK Interactive. The effect is very convincing for me. Some scratches, chipping, washing…..the usual way.
For the figures I mostly used the new Winter Germans, with some conversions and parts from other sets.
Here is the way I did the diorma…see the below for the single steps.
I sewed the ground plate with a hot wire cutter and melted the surface and the bunker with a small blow torch.
Then I created the ground with a mixture of sand,
wood filler, small stones, cork powder….Before doing the landscape, I had already painted figs and tank. Just needed some additional stuff like crates, spare Equipment, tarpaulins…
I covered the whole landscape in black color by airbrush and then I started painting work from dark to lighter brown and sand tones by drybrushing.

Charge The GunsParticipantHi Bill. I think you’re reading it right, but I agree it is too powerful. I have not yet fielded Cromwell with his Ironsides (having a bit of trouble finishing that particular conversion) but the Ironsides on their own are pretty darn’d good!
I think this falls into the “if you don’t like it then don’t use it” category. If you are playing with someone fielding His Majesty Cromwell then perhaps best to agree to drop this or give him some alternative ‘buff’. Perhaps you could offer to have less decorations this Christmas as a penance ;-).

ParticipantGreat Idea!
For conversions you say that the majority of the model should be Warlord, so would your Flak 37 with one of your Crew and 6 of someone else bei fine or is that Not the majority? 🤔 Given that this Crew is a very special Typ of infantry…June 2, 2018 at 1:46 am #136860Topic: What's your best Z moment or conversion?

BoazParticipantYou built it … you plaid it … got a memorable moment or crazy conversation ?
This is the place to share it …May 30, 2018 at 1:04 pm #136619In reply to: Monthly Painting Challenge
John MathewsParticipantPainting challenge is great idea. I’ll jump in on June as not enough time in May for anything.
As for rules and models I think it best to keep the units or models warlord figures. Now conversions and scratch builds are great and should be allowed, but as the forum is mainly dedicated to Warlord Games products I think we should stay within those lines.
If someone is painting up a unit of Samurai and has a Perry miniatures samurai commander as part of the challenge I think that would be fine, but doing a whole unit of Perry samurai would be too much.
Or in other words, from the summer painting offensive.
Q. Can I use a converted model?
A. Yes – as long as the majority of the miniature is from the Warlord Games range, you can convert it to your heart’s content.May 28, 2018 at 2:26 am #136378In reply to: What's your next Warlord Games Purchase/Plan?
WiegrafParticipantI’m working on a Punic War Republican Roman army and an allied mercenary group to fight under their banners, so I went and bought the celtic command sprue to fill up for a unit and a regiment of Numidian cavalry.
THEN shortly after the sprue sale came out ! Haha, so now I’m thinking of buying Caesarian Romans. I always buy 2-3 sprues per sale, and use them for conversions, but now I have so many that I think I may just build a Marian reformed army to play in the Late Republic. All the Gauls and Numidians I have can be used between the earlier Republicans / Caesarian forces, too.

The Cavalry are all conversions using the IJA plastics and the Perry ACW cavalry. They only arrived an edition too late to charge headlong across the table 😀
