On page 89 of the main rule book it states that a unit that forms square in response to a cavalry charge cannot deliver closing fire – clear enough. What if:
A French cav unit charges a British inf unit. The Brits form square, the French don’t close and finish their remaining movement. But, a French inf unit then charges the newly formed Br…[Read more]

I was listening to a podcast recently in which the host made mention of a rule that infantry now have to pass on Order Test to form square, as opposed to the method on page 89 of the rulebook. Has anyone heard of this?

Ken Jacobsen replied to the topic What do YOU want to see in Bolt Action v3? in the forum Bolt Action 4 months, 2 weeks ago
I’d like to see a Rules Committee made up of players that are in no way associated with Warlord or any other gaming company. The motivation for rules updates, amendments, new army lists, etc., will be to make the game better, not $.
used by another rules system & works very well.

Sorry, didn’t complete the question before I hit Submit.
Can the British unit “see” the French unit?

Question for the group:
It seems intuitive that a unit can only charge a unit that it can “see” at the beginning of the turn.

Big help Arcole, thanks.
Seems like a pretty powerful rule that required a bit of forensic reconstruction to put all the pieces together.

OK, I went to CoE and read the paragraph that Nat referenced. I’m still confused:
1. How many smaller units can be formed (CoE states two, three, or four – pretty nebulous)
2. What are the stats for the smaller units, specifically Hand-to-Hand value and Stamina?

Thanks Nat.

Where is this rule located? I’ve been scouring the Clash of Eagles book & can’t find it. Thanks.

Ken Jacobsen replied to the topic Advanced BA Rules Questions: Kaukopartio Long Distance Recon w/ Transports in the forum Bolt Action 9 months, 2 weeks ago
I mostly play Finns, and that would make a borderline OP unit just silly good.
I’d say no, you couldn’t transport a Kaukopartio unit on from the back edge. That ability is granted solely to the deep recon guys, not the transport.

Are there any good podcasts about Napoleonic Wargaming – a Napoleonic version of SNAFU or Cast Dice?

I’m driving myself crazy trying to find this in the rules: what effect (other than having to pass on Order test) do Pin markers have on indirect fire units (spotters and/or the weapon firing); are there any negative “To Hit” modifiers?

Makes sense – thanks for the clarification.

Maybe I’m being obtuse, but I’m still fuzzy about Skirmishers. I understand the rules regarding Lights & Open Order, but…..
1. Can Line battalions generate their own Skirmishers? If so, how many?
2. If they can generate their own Skirmishers, can a Line battalion shoot through them?
3. What are the rules regarding the deployment/recall of…[Read more]
