Flank Charges

I’m getting ready to host a BP Napoleonic Game Day at the local store.  Been brushing up on the rules to make sure I have everything right. The way our group has been playing Infantry getting hit in the flank by cavalry is: 1) the Infantry needs a 5 to score a hit, 2) the Infantry must allocate at least half their dice to the front, even if no enemy present, 3) can’t be supported.  Items 1 and 3 are in the rules, but for the life of me I can’t find any references to #2.  Am I imagining this?

Main rulebook, Fighting combat, starts page 68.  Last paragraph on page 69 deals with fighting to the flank or rear.  “Whatever its situation, a unit cannot allocate more than half its attacks to either flank or rear.”
