A couple of points….
1)Due to BA’s homogenisation of weapon stats I wouldnt give extra range to the sweedish.. as its not just the weapon range but contact range that is taken in to account in game
EG the standard Lee Enfield 303 is accurate to a mile…. the Bren (like the SA80 & LSW) were ‘de-accurisied’ to make them less accurate so they can…[Read more] -

Under some classifications , the BAR is type of LMG, since its about how it was used not its ROF or mechanisms.
See The Encyclopedia of Weapons of World War II, under the US BAR entry.
” It may be regarded as a rather light machine-gun or as a rather heavy assault rifle, but in practice it was used as a form of light machine-gun.”(same for the…[Read more]

SteveT replied to the topic Multi Launcher – Line of Sight or Spotter in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 5 months ago
A unit that can have a spotter say so under “options”. So its normally stuff like Med/Hvy mortars and howitzers.
So, your Katyusha does not have that option.
But also note the part on p.71 under Indirect fire that allows them to fire against enemies even if friends are in the way.

I’m not sure I follow you logic, Richard?
What ever size of figure you are using, an infantry is typically a battalion if we’re talking Napoleonics. You might have 24 figures in a 28mm battalion, or 100 figures in an ‘Epic’ battalion. Each would still have a stamina of ‘3’ to represent a regular sized unit. In Black Powder the number of fig…[Read more]

Hi Richard – there is a quick reference sheet available on the Warlord site here https://www.warlordgames.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/black-powder-playsheet.pdf if that helps?
I would strongly suggest you remove units from the board when they break – the core game expects you to do this, and as you say, you’re wasting time by not doing it. (N…[Read more]

A mate of mine 3D printed my Bettys as a gift so there are STLs out there… however I think I put the wings on slightly wrong so they are a bit bowed :p

@Generaljimbo81 – issue is if you start allowing lots of light mortars with their move and fire in lists you are removing one of Japanes key distinguishing factors (the grenadier squads)….better to give the light mortar as an option to the HQ (ie the LT allows you to take 0-1 light mortar then the mortar slot allows you to take 0-1 of light,…[Read more]

RE snipers – if you make them any better you need to up the points… theres an argument for upping the points alread
RE medics – my view is: make them a team of 1 -4 (so you measure from any member of the unit). And you you add 3 extra rules
Medical Orderly : +1 to the dice on frindly units for each additional member in the unit
Hippocratic o…[Read more] -

On medics: make them too cheap and they will be in everyone’s army, so I think it would work better if they were able to roll to help any casualties, no matter from HE, etc.

It does not looks like there is any 1/200 model produced but, you never know.
Nowadays, 3D print could be the option to bypass such restrictions. So if you have access to such technology I’d suggest to have a search around.

With a number of games I find that having a cheat /crib sheet with the turn order and and event rolls on 1 or 2 sides of A4 + a printed out excel sheet of the stats for the units in my army + a sheet with JUST the special rules my army has on means that if you ask me a question I’m going to look at 1 of 3 bits of paper & not a book … if I c…[Read more]

Hi Richard – interesting problem! Our group has found it easier to reach a conclusion. with BP in a regular club game, say 3-4 hours, than with previous rules we’ve used. The degrading of units’ effectiveness as their stamina reduces, and the removal of whole units as they break, seems to work for us. We typically play two options for an army l…[Read more]

MMG /HMG – was thinking a “focused fire (team)” arc (2″ linear arc centered on the MG) which does D3 pins instead of 1
Support Teams – expanding the unit types to HQ team (main person + 0-2 infantry), Squads (as now) support teams (limited squad, every one has the rule like medics), support weapon teams (immune to snipers etc), support gun team…[Read more]

Some reduction in cost of MMG/HMG teams. Right now, bit too easy to lose them to snipers, etc.
Air observer – make blunders far rarer even if that means raising cost. Right now, you have to pray you don’t blow your own troops up.
Include in the main book all the bits that got added for terrain and obstacles in other books.
Smoke. Make it…[Read more]

SteveT replied to the topic Homebrew:Thoughts on this idea for MMG/HMG teams? in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 5 months ago
“Vehicle MGs (and autocannons) don’t have Fixed”. Yes, that was kind of my point. I think most people would want consistency to any new improvements to MG rules that work across all types. Tricky.

I think they might need something, but I am not sure this fits in with MGs in tanks somehow?
The problem for me is they are ideal sniper targets — feels seems to me that the sniper always takes out the only one of the team who can use the weapon and thus eliminate the whole team….
One easy change I was tempted with is “hit from this weapon 1 e…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic "Tank" Platoon full of of Motorcycle with Machine-gun Sidecar? in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 5 months ago
I’d say there’s no ambiguity:
Rules state an armoured vehicle is anything with a DV of 7+ or more
The armoured car slot is just that, a list building device -
SteveT replied to the topic "Tank" Platoon full of of Motorcycle with Machine-gun Sidecar? in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 5 months ago
To be honest, Stuart, I am not entirely sure on that ruling since there might be some ambiguity in the meaning of “armoured vehicle” in the Tank book, a book I find annoying vague in any ways. Also the armed motorcycle counts as being an “armoured car” in terms of its slot and also its entry in the German forces books under ” Armoured Cars” (a…[Read more]
