My take is that there are not many changes but the changes have made it a bit more immersive. What do I mean by immersive.. V2 need a lot of 7 up rolls to pin and then to kill was just as unlikely. Thanks, It was the more ‘kill’ part that was bothering me. Does that detract from tactics or does it actually make people more realistically cautious ?

I love 3rd, as a friend of mine put it, “it’s more Killy”

we have found that the drop in to hit from 3 to 4 isn’t a problem, and you definitely get less 7+ to hit rolls.

I use speed/ contrast paints for my Rebs and regular paints for the North. I don’t worry too much about painting every little detail as some of it will not be seen at 3 feet away!! That and I want to get it on the table to play quickly! Tabletop standard is just fine by me at this scale!!

I’m interested in the opinions and findings of those who have played both sets

From the 8 or so games I have seen on videos it, 3rd seems to produce more erratic outcomes and needs more rolling.

Breakthrough doesn’t allow reserves.
Fog of War requires half of your force (rounded up) to be placed in reserve.

That is the conflict between the two. The other two deployment types allow reserves, Fog of War requires it.

Default is a 360 degree arc. Fixed limits the arc for some infantry and most artillery weapons. Vehicles weapon arcs are specified on the weapons line of their entries.

Sorry to be Mr loadsa questions. I did try to search the forum for an answer. But do infantry and their weapons other than fixed weapons have an arc of fire? I ask because in my game last night a vehicle target appeared to the rear of a deployed AT rifle. I’m quite enjoying the new BA3 battle scenario generator. However I note that with the Breakthrough page 165 it says if you roll for ‘Fog of War’ Deployment you have to re-roll because reserves are not allowed for this breakthrough object. Lend-Lease stuff is probably going to wait till next October with the armies of book 🙁

till then I’d use a British armoured pltn as a lend-lease armd pltn to add the Shermans & Churchills. (British shermans can workout about 5pts more expensive than the US ones..)

(I’ve already got my local clubs agreement to do that with my lend-lease shermans)
