Hi William
You’re not missing anything, it’s just the game has developed. Initially when the expansion sets were released the idea was these were to allow players to use 3rd party or proxy models until Warlord caught up. When it came around to releasing the A6M2 model Andy took the opportunity to introduce a new trait – No Stalling – which better…[Read more]

Renko replied to the topic Where can I get Ace cards? in the forum Blood Red Skies 2 months, 3 weeks ago
Hi – if you mean the Ace Skills – such as “Killer Instinct” etc theyre not available separately. There were seven released with the original Battle of Britain starter set – Lightning Reaction, Accurate, Slippery, Tactical Wizard, Overshoot, Master Tactician & True Grit. The Midway starter set doesn’t include any, but it does include a much…[Read more]

Yes – think of Boom Chits as “significant emotional events” such as 20mm cannon shells passing your cockpit 🙂

Hi Mark
Cant really comment without knowing the planes and pilot skills. Where you playing to a points total?
Just speculating from now on but……….
If you have poor pilots and a low FP landing a hit can be problematic- particularly against a Robust opponent like an FW, however even then he should burn through his “Robust” cards pretty…[Read more]

Hmm – the answer is “almost”. You get the planes, boom chits, other markers, clouds etc, expanded rules and the like. What you don’t get in comparison to Midway is the Theatre & Doctrine cards. These are available as “The Ops Room” card deck from Warlord though tbh you don’t need them to get started. The main issue with the bundle is the notorious…[Read more]

Those look great – what paint did you use for the aluminium – mine always seems to go dull?

The fighters are centre stage. You can get a good bomber game running with some of the Air Strike scenarios but fighters are the stars

No problem. People get hung up on bombers a bit – we tried to come up with some way to put them in scenarios with points but it just got too complex and open to abuse. It’s still open to abuse, but that’s the nature of some players 🙂

The bombers are totally free – however they’re only available in bomber scenarios. Unless there is any special circumstances they’re all Pilot Skill 3, which when carrying theor bombs and torps reduces to PS2 due to the “Laden” trait
Yes an unnamed Ace in a Wildcat is 123 points – there are “named Aces” coming that have 2 Ace skills but they tend…[Read more]

It’s the points for use in qames with points totals – note the B5N is incorrect and should read (-)
Most games are 500pts split between pilot crew quality and aircraft points as shown on the cards

Renko replied to the topic Carrier Strike Scenario in the forum Blood Red Skies 1 year, 6 months ago
You bought it, do what you want with it 🙂
However I’d be careful about making too many changes, particularly going to 5s & 6s. Get Air Strike – there are much more specific rules for attacking surface targets in there

There are a couple of suggestions I would make.
Firstly, your comment about speed seems to suggest you are trying to turn fight as the turning circle of a P51 will be wider than almost anything else as it has a higher minimum speed due to its high max speed. Solution, don’t turn fight, use energy. I’ll explain in a bit. The other issue with the…[Read more]

We switched to Open Play and have not looked back. The way to think about Ace Skills is just because one person is good at something and is in the same group as another talented person with a different skill, it doesn’t mean they are both good equally at the same things. In football Liverpool have Salah as a striker and Alisson in goal. Both are…[Read more]

No – Ace cards are specific to individual Aces. The retention test is per turn = these are Discards not Removes

Bombers are only available in scenarios that include them, tournaments wont use those scenarios

Renko replied to the topic Midway starter set release news? in the forum Blood Red Skies 1 year, 7 months ago
I was speaking to some Warlord guys over the weekend and they mentioned the first batch of Midway Starter Sets were now in Nottingham, so should be in peoples hands “soon”

The wording is “Both cards take effect – if applicable” – (Midway Pg 22) so you have to apply Great Dive.

I’ve not had a chance to compare the physical models however the A6M2 is a totally new sculpt and it has different stats, including the new “No Stalling” trait. The main visual difference is the A6M2 has longer wings, and the A6M5 has three visible exhaust pipes each side at the edge of the engine cowling.
