I missed these rules when Warlord first put them out. After reading them, they seem worth a try. I agree that if the officer can snap to all figures within 12″ then there’s no more random movement. Also, as each figure fights separately, it seems like cover would be harder to figure out if you’re partially in it.

So a few key points of BP v2 CORE rules (so not the epic versions which may be different)
1) Only a single unit (with a some exceptions for small unit / artillery) can fight on a facing
2) Units either fight or dont, the number of die they use is modified by formation, commanders, die split between multiple enemies etc not by ratio in contact. …[Read more] -

Hi there! I’m just trying to understand how to act in the following case: two regiments are clashing in hand-to-hand combat, one ‘ A’ with three stands and one ‘B’ with five, but they are colliding only partially, that is only the last two right stands of ‘A’ are in contact with the last two of ‘B’. How to manage this? Thanks, Paolo

Definitely sounds like you’ve transposed the two rules in your heads – unlike the infantry rule, the artillery rule doesn’t have a buy in. You get it even if you haven’t paid for any artillery.

@Charles – “I thought vehicles got a half advance rate reverse move, and recce vehicles got a full advance rate reverse move, and dual direction recce vehicles got a full run rate reverse move?” You are correct. Also, most vehicles can’t manoeuvre going in reverse – it’s straight back, recce vehicles can manoeuvre as if going forward.

Hi all, me and my friend played “Firefight” the other day and loved it, the concept is amazing although the rules are clear as mud and officers and grenades are OP. For example:
“If you choose to activate an Officer then before you choose an action you have the opportunity to activate all the individuals within 12” with one command (pull the c…[Read more]

We always assumed the French got one free artillery piece that has to be the same as the one you pay the points for. Someone just pointed out the rule say, “French Armies get one free Inexperienced or Regular artillery unit. This unit can be any anti-tank gun or field artillery piece in the French Army list (except for Heavy Artillery). This unit…[Read more]

To revise my original statement, Iv’e also played a few games of Firefight! with cereal box houses, paper tokens, coins, and a handful of dice. It was quite fun. Although the rules for officers and grenades are a bit broken.

Yeah I dunno, I’ve played a few “mock up” games with my friend, and spent months reading the rules, but never played an official game. So would not be well versed in rules like that.
Yeah that’s smart. A HMG might be a points sink, but the threatening power alone might work as area denial.

I thought vehicles got a half advance rate reverse move, and recce vehicles got a full advance rate reverse move, and dual direction recce vehicles got a full run rate reverse move?
As for a jeep with an MMG or HMG, that’s a tough call. You can now get it as a recce jeep but only with the MMG, but the HMG is enough to make 7+ vehicles think…[Read more]

Now that I think of it, I am definitely going to run the experimental warplane rules by him. It would be an easy way to get my army to 1000 points, and it sounds fun.

Aidan replied to the topic Forward Air Observers for the US in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 11 months ago
Yeah I was looking at that, artillery looks like a way better option even though it’s more expensive. I was considering Air observers because the US gets bonuses for them. I might just not run either to save myself the embarrassment of strafing my own troops.
And my friend is pretty open to trying new things, I might try the experimental warplane rules.

Yes, when they work they’re great. However, if someone has even a little bit of flak or pintle mount mg fire, they have a pretty good chance of chasing the plane off. For more predictable damage, I think the artillery FO is better. It almost never hits its own side, and even if it doesn’t score a hit, it still usually leaves enough pins behind to…[Read more]

hmm…. so quick look at what they looked like
So I’d say at 28mm (even more likely 15mm) you could get away with looking at British / European Naval 1850s models
However I’m running into a similar roadblock (not helped by works firewalls!) on finding actual manufactures – will keep looking!
