I thank you for the advice, as and I think I am going to take it, to the point were I am going to make (using the figures in the gentleman’s war starter set) 1 x command group and 2x squads with LMG’s for each of the 2 sides, I am also considering getting the Afrika Korps starter army and 8th army starter set, but based on what you suggested…[Read more]

  • In the AT Vii (100 days), it states…

Gallop at Anything: Commanders issuing a Charge order to a unit with this rule
gain +1 to their Staff Rating to do so. Cavalry with this rule automatically gain
the Ferocious Charge rule (Black Powder, page 90) but must make a break
through move if allowed even if this takes them off the table.

    … So,…[Read more]

  • I always assumed it was saying +1 to your command rating; a one-point bonus in other words. Plusses and minuses get thrown around loosely in the rules, so context is always the best guide to what they meant. Surely in this case they wanted the cav to be impetuous, therefore it makes sense that it would be a one-point bonus to the command rating or…[Read more]

  • I was wondering if someone could help me with how this works mechanically as I *must* be getting something wrong or not understanding something.

I think it’s the wording of the “+1 to Charge order” that’s throwing me off, but to me, that reads as you’re meant to add 1 to a charge order roll – but…wouldn’t that make it *less* likely they’d…[Read more]

  • NICE stuff, Jim!  I don’t model anymore.  I was out of gaming for nearly 30 years, so I don’t have paints, brushes, etc. anymore, and my eyesight is fading with age.  These days I pay the talented ones to produce my gaming gear.  I’ve picked up sprues, stowage kits and bits and send them along with models to my guy, Dustin, in TN.  Generic mini…[Read more]

  • I’ve always like to build more than 1 or 2 versions of the tanks I like . I think it goes back to my 1/35th scale building days , when every possible version of a tank was probably kitted out by Dragon , Tamiya or AFV . Today , while there are many more companies producing plastic kits in 1/35 , we in 1/56 unfortunately aren’t quite so lucky with…[Read more]

    Hi David

Welcome to Bolt Action. It is really an amazing game.

Here’s my small piece of advice if you want to take it

As a new start I would advise building up one squad at a time. You need a minimum of   1 command group (min 1 officer) and 2 rifle squads (min 5 men each unit). Obviously this is a bare minimum and it would be difficult to p…[Read more]

  • Thank you for your feedback, as well as your suggestions I will definitely be looking into these sourcebooks you suggested, I had already decided that my next purchase was going to be the 8th Army starter set as well as some additional commonwealth infantry boxes,

  • Hi David, and welcome to the group. I’m pretty sure you will get a few detailed responses, but let me just give you a few suggestions to get you started.

Have a look at the army lists in the Bolt Action Third Edition rule book. Here you will find some core information about how to organize and equip your infantry squads. For more details and…[Read more]

  • <p style=”text-align: left;”>Hi.  I’m making my friend’s army and he bought the ss starter set that had the 13th mountain division. Are there any campaign book that has them in it.  thanks</p>

  • Good evening all

I am a new player in bolt action, as such I have purchased the gentleman’s war starter set, so I do have some questions looking more for clarification, the biggest one is suggested unit size as the start set comes with 12 infantry for each side, and the videos I have seen on you tube as well as pictures I have seen show between 8…[Read more]

  • I  built   a box a couple weeks ago , and I like the 2 older Russian sets ( Summer & Winter ) better . While the separate rain capes are a nice touch ( not really a fan of those molded on ones , and the backpacks ) the size differences of various parts is annoying . Example ,the heads are larger as is  the PTRD anti-tank rifle than the one in the…[Read more]

  • My friend recently got the new Soviet Army starter set with the new plastic Soviet Infantry. I offered to assemble a few for him, so he gave me a couple of sprues. What this means is that I finally got a good look at the new Soviet Infantry sprue shown below.

Even before assembling, the first thing I notice is how much more “Heroic Scaling”…[Read more]

    Hello,
    Some questions about combat jump:

    1) Fire is resolved after paratroopers landed and are on a certain terrain. If shooting them with flak weapon, do they benefit from cover on the ground? Thematically they are shot mid-air.

    2) What happens when unit forming a 1-inch line apart on the ground, overlaps own or enemy units when…[Read more]

  • Howdy Bob!  I agree with the idea of fielding the experimental models.  As a German player, I’d like to use the Katchen, an APC version of the Hetzer, the Kugelblitz, and the upgraded Ostwind/Wirbelwind; twin 50mm autocannons in a turret on a Panther chassis….

  • Makes sense to me, Caleb….
