L.T. Russell replied to the topic NCO acting as a Loader in the forum Bolt Action 3 years ago
Interesting question Mark! On the one hand, an NCO shouldn’t shirk helping out with his unit’s work. On the other hand, he’s not running his unit if he’s doing a Private’s job of sticking another shell into a PIAT or feeding belts into an LMG. Sounds like this unit needs a ninth man or some weapon is undermanned….

That seems like a fair spread of ranges coljack. If I was an American player, I’d expect to be getting a little more outa my M2s….
There’s also the firepower of the semiauto rifles. I’d HATE to be the guy with a 98K, trading shots with either of the M1s….but too much detail, start losing playability. That be the kinda detail in a sq…[Read more]

Howdy Stuart! I found this on WE ARE THE MIGHTY;
“Unlike the dog training programs of the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard, the Marine Corps dogs were trained exclusively for combat roles. Being a strictly combat organization, the Corps had no interest in training dogs unless they contributed directly to killing the enemy or saving Marines. This…[Read more]

Howdy Stuart! Just found this. I don’t have EMPIRE IN FLAMES. This sounds kinda bogus to me. IIRC, USMC War Dogs are “attack dogs”, they primarily used Dobermans. An “attack dog” IS a weapon, at least in close combat, IMHO. If I’m the average WWII Japanese soldier, at 5′ 3 1/2″ and 120lbs, I don’t know that I wanna hand-to-hand a Dober…[Read more]

L.T. Russell replied to the topic Can Medic attendants shoot? in the forum Bolt Action 3 years ago
I was a Light Infantryman for 17 years, retiring in 2000. Our medics always carried rifles, just like the rest of us. IIRC, the only person unarmed was the Chaplain. He did carry ammo for the MGs, though….

Howdy Gents! Neely, sounds like you ran into a serious jerk….
I’m still trying to figure out a real reason you can’t fire an SMG or assault rifle from horseback. It’s not like the sound would scare a horse that can handle rifle or pistol fire. I’ve fired both SMGs and assault rifles, they don’t recoil any more that a rifle. Is this just arb…[Read more]

Howdy Nat! IINM, max effective range for a standard military rifle, with iron sights, is gonna be something like 600 yards. To shoot a point target at a mile, you’d need a sniper-grade weapon, match ammo and a decent scope….AND be a better than average shooter. You could maybe hit an area target at a mile with iron sights. I made Sha…[Read more]

Howdy Attention Span Labs! Yeah, I’ve played my Germans against a couple of our Brit players and those squads full of MGs are murder. About the only saving grace is that Automated Infantry don’t hand-to-hand very well….IF I can get my Schreckwulfen and Nachtjaeger ON them. Schreckwulfen riding in Hanomags idea is what got me into Konflikt 47…[Read more]

Hmmm, I like that, Attention Span Labs! Could give the “thralls” Totenkorps stats/abilities, maybe have the “thralls” die off if the controlling “Vampress” is killed. I’m starting to flash on John Carpenter’s VAMPIRES….

I hear you, but I still worry about unit costs, even in scenarios that I’m designing.
“metagaming”?
We have some highly-ranked tournament players in our group, but I’ve got no interest there either. I will act as a sparring partner though, just ’cause I like to play….

Howdy again Stuart! My continuing thanks for your patient and informed replies. I agree with your point; “…benefit significantly from being crew served and were employed as light machine guns by their respective armies…”, however I’ll continue to quibble that they’re not much better than having a BAR with a loader, as opposed to being a…[Read more]

I think the British Automated Infantry are a clever idea….however, while I have no problem with the idea of a 10 foot robot toting around an MMG or HMG and firing it from the hip, why aren’t they suffering a minus for using a crew-served weapon without having a crew and/or a range subtraction for not having the gun on a tripod? Same with the…[Read more]

Howdy Luke! I imagine you could use the Schreckwulfen rules for Frau Growler’s werewolf….
Hmm, a “Vampress squad”….how about something like; an enemy unit that fails a morale check during an assault is “Enthralled” into close combat with the Vampress unit, INSTEAD of being able to shoot at them. Give them Fast, Tooth and Claw, and St…[Read more]

THANKS for your reply, Attention Span Labs! I like the idea of rolling a separate colored die for Hauptmann Gross. I hadn’t thought of that….
