One of the problems is the generic definition of “rough” ground. Dense woodland, deep mud, sand and rubble are given as examples, and whilst riding a motorbike (particulalry a combination) through sand and mud is not easy it is certainly possible (there are lots of WWII pictures to support this).
Cavalry should not be able to move through dense…[Read more]

I did a previous post on Soviet ‘Machine Gun Artillery’ Platoons. It will be on previous pages. https://www.warlordgames.com/community/topic/machinegun-artillery-pulyemyetno-artillyeriyskiy-platoon/
Soviet ‘Machine Gun Artillery’ Platoons were only used in 1941 in designated defensive zones. As well as multiple MMG there are multiple LMG Te…[Read more]

They look perfect for Market Garden, but too green for Overlord. But I guess that is what you were going for?

I used standard US paras for mine, but used the Mohican haircuts to make them different, so I can identify them on the tabletop.

Hi Nat – In my club snipers cans till remove LMGs and Panzerfausts becuase they are carried by men. But in my club, snipers cannot destroy MMGs. They can only take out a member of the MMG squad.

Snipers can only kill men, not equipment.
Area terrain such as woods – troops can only be seen if they are within one inch of the edge; or if enemy troops are within six inches. Troops inside can also only see enemy within six inches away unless the troops are within one inch of the edge, when they have unrestricted view. This allows troops t…[Read more]

By the way, I was really asking becuase of my five Soviet LMG teams I use in my two Machinegun Artillery Platoons.

Paul Nettle replied to the topic An LMG Tean costs? in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 5 months ago
Thanks for your replies, gents. On reflection, I think the lower costs are justified, becuase of the lower rate of fire an LMG has.
The main advantage an LMG Team has over an MMG Team is that the LMG team is not Fixed.

“The Italians came mostly from the prisons and from conscripted peasants. The desertion rate was absurd high. The 1st Neapolitan Line lost 252 in 3 days. First light had 130 in a month. Replacements are marched under guard but even so half did not reach the Pyrenees.”
In Napoleonic times Italy was split into three kingdoms: the Kingdom of Italy,…[Read more]

In “Campaign Battle of France” a German LMG team costs 20 points (Inexperienced), 35 points (Regular) and 50 points (Veteran).
In “Campaign The Western Desert” a German LMG team costs 50 points (Regular) and 65 points (Veteran).
The entry in both books is identical – so why the difference in costs?

The central figure in the painting depicts Hauptmann Lyhme of 3rd Bn IR 50 crossing the Terek. First across was 11 Kompanie at 0200, but the rest of the Bn arrived by 0500, which is depicted in the picture (Hauptmann Lyhme was battalion commander at the time). Only 16 rafts were available, and to achieve suprise there was no preliminary bo…[Read more]

On page 22 of the Campaign Stalingrad book there is a picture titled: “German infantry crossing the Don by Steve Noon Osprey Publishing. Taken from Campaign 281: The Caucasus 1942-43. The picture is indeed by Steve Noon. The picture is indeed from Osprey’s ‘Campaign 281: The Caucasus 1942-43.’

Well, as I said, just ask your opponent if he minds you using historical tanks. If your opponent is happy, then you can use a historical tank whether it is in the books or not.

I have not seen this in any other book. I guess you can take as many Brandenburger Spahtrupp as you have points for. After all, there is not much else in the list.

I made the same comment about the Germans in Case Blue. But the Starlingrad campaign book has the long-barreled Pz IV in them, so a campaign book on Finland may have them too. If your gaming group if fine with you using historical tanks then just ask them. My group is fine with it ie Romanians using captured Sovier armoured cars. I would als…[Read more]

My Romanian force is based on 1942, so no Panzerschreck. Luckily the Romanians can use Panzerfausts and Panthers in the 1942 list (although I never would). My trusty PaK 97/38 has to engage the KVs!

Paul Nettle replied to the topic Hungarian German tanks in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 11 months ago
I run a Romanian list which has the same option for two tanks. This is a Pz35T for the Romanians (pretending to be an R2) and a Pz38T for the Germans (from 22nd Panzer). This combination rarely strikes terror into my opponents and their Kv1.
