Nat replied to the topic Building a gentleman's war minis for v3 in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 2 months ago
IIRC the gentelmans war gives a nice rounded v2 list… so i’d go with that and then see what you need (if anything) to add to make a legal v3 list.
OR you can wait till the end of January and get hold of the new armies of Germany book which could change your mind with what you want to build.

You cant give units inside a transport a Fire! order, only Down, Advance or Run.
So no they cant call in their attack..

Nat replied to the topic Bersaglieri and french D1 & D2 tanks in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 2 months ago
Mike, two things,
1) most game systems keep points cost calculations in-house to stop people creating their own units that can then break the systems. We can extrapulate a number of the costs but with tanks you have roundings and (hopefully) proportional costs. To put a build your own tank program out is bad for buisness.
2) what we have in B…[Read more] -

the v3 get-you-by lists are copy and pastes with minor CORE rule changes from the armies of books … historical unit changes werent updated – even those that have been in the v2 FAQ for YEARS!
The campaign book corrections likewise havent been factored in to the get-you-by lists…
We currently dont have any dates for when the minor nations…[Read more]

2. … what about FAOs? still allowing them to spot for any non-inexpeirenced indirect weapon?
-
Nat replied to the topic Buildings in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 2 months ago
Barrage or any indirect that hits a building /unit in a building then tests to see which floor it explodes on! – You can either target empty building OR units within building, but you cant target buildings that have units inside. (gameplay reasons)
From v2 (cant recall if majorly different in v3) any level where you could stand /place models is…[Read more]

So buildings… in real life are great hiding places… right up until spotters then they become death traps when targeted by artillery.

Master Chief replied to the topic V3: Forward Observer counts as Spotter as per p. 102, regarding being "Down"? in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 2 months ago
Haha yes, so we shall see whether in 3rd Ed will Warlord Games also “extrapolate” the rules for Officer and HQ Units in transport to that of Spotters in transports as well? Or will they say something else and disallow spotting from soft-skinned and open-topped vehicles?
Yes I had seen in some of the campaign books that US spotters were allowed in…[Read more]

oh I fully agree that WL could and SHOULD have read through their own v2 FAQ and made sure that every point was covered in the rules…. but they didnt so the v3 FAQ is going to be longer than that of v2 🙁
there was a couple of spotter vehicles in the later campaign books…
My point was that spotters are only 10 points each and not locked to…[Read more]

Master Chief replied to the topic V3: Forward Observer counts as Spotter as per p. 102, regarding being "Down"? in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 2 months ago
The reason I asked is because in the 2nd Edition FAQs this is exactly the explanation given for spotters not being able to spot from transports … because officers and HQ units’ abilities do not affect units outside the transport 🤷♂️ I believe in the 2nd Edition there was only one German vehicular unit that can act as a mobile…[Read more]

I’d say no, they’re not HQ units so why would they get the explict HQ allowance for seeing /working out of transports…. plus their 10 points each with multiple buffs from v2.

Nat replied to the topic Missing vehicles in easy army. in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 2 months ago
(dont worry I know what you mean …. I have a 3rd Ed metal sisters army….)
v3 was needed because of the size of the FAQ… but seen as the army books (less germany) were all v1 and the v2 rulebook lasted 12 years!

Master Chief replied to the topic V3: Forward Observer counts as Spotter as per p. 102, regarding being "Down"? in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 2 months ago
While on the topic of spotters, do the new 3rd Edition rules on page 147 regarding the ability of officers and other HQ units on transports mean that spotters on transports can spot? (One of the current 3rd Ed FAQs also mentioned that the spotter’s ability is a passive ability that is “always on”)

Nat replied to the topic Missing vehicles in easy army. in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 2 months ago
So Easy Army is NOT official… it used to be, but hasn’t been for the last couple of years. The official army builder is the Warlord App (found on google & apple play stores) that is behind a paywall. Easy Army is currently upto date on the major armies for v3 but the one guy who runs it is still working on updating the minor nations.

problems – after 5 seconds of thinking….
1) movement, you cant move within 1″ of another unit including friendly… so you need a 3-4″ path.. oh and you have to go round terrain, but how can you do that AND stay 1″ away from your other unit?
2) Ambush & reactions – the how and when – as if doing it sequenctially i’d get a clear shot off but…[Read more] -

correct.
Because Ambush changes to a Fire! order when activated not an Advance.

Nat replied to the topic Indirect Fire Question in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 3 months ago
So this is the same as v2 (both wording and how it works)
When you target a unit, it has a footprint area. In order to have moved far enough away from that area no model can be within 2″ of it after its move.
Now this means most vehicles will have advance forwards as a reverse of 4.5″ wont be enough for the front to be 2″ further back than the…[Read more]

SteveT replied to the topic American M51 Multiple HMG Platform in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 3 months ago
It is absurd that you mount it on a trailer and it gets 24 dice. But fix it to a PARKED halftrack and it gets 12 dice. Just another half-baked nonsense from V3.
-
Nat replied to the topic American M51 Multiple HMG Platform in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 3 months ago
Yep its a trailer… but as its a trailer its not a vehicle (cant move on its own) so its under the artillery section.
its classified as a heavy gun for moving (so cant be man handled 6″ on a run order)
-
SteveT replied to the topic American M51 Multiple HMG Platform in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 3 months ago
oh they haven’t classed it as vehicle mounted? But wasn’t it normally fired stuck on a trailer? That is going to be popular then.
[Not seen 3rd ed rules yet.]
