I appreciate BRS is at its roots a historical war game but I grew up on comics like Warlord and Battle (until 2000AD came along) and have always been a fan of the Johnny Red strip. A potential liscencing opportunity at some pointonce the ranges for the historical theatres are established?

Understand that Johnny Red was relaunched by Titan a while back, Warlord are probably having to shell out plenty for the licence for Johnny Alpha already !

Anyway, in my mind’s eye my basic set of Spitfires is already Killer Kane, Haversham-Phipps and the lads – who needs licencing ? 🙂

Pure financial bias on my part – the early Falcon Squadron was so rag tag you’d only need one or two planes from a box set! A Falcon box would be so much cheaper……
They did indeed do a one off mini series, well worth a look.
Given my inability to shoot down spitfires with 109# I feel I am already recreating Lofty’s One Man Luftwaffe…..

As soon as Warlord releases the Hawker Hurricane anyone will be able to make all the Johnny Red themed airplanes they want. There is no need to license, just slap on decals and paint red birds… done.

If only it was just the Hurricane! (I already did that with my FOW air cover) – in terms of models it’s how you put together a squadron of random aircraft but to be honest it is more that I think it would mahe a great narrative campaign. Nothing to stop anyone doing it “home brew’ but just assumed to do something commercially it would need liscencing.

    From the FAQ
Q: Is squadron synonymous with ‘your entire force’ or does it mean ‘a part of your force’? (So you could have a squadron of Spitfires and a squadron of Hurricanes.)

A: A sqn is representative of part of your Main Force, and while it might be all of it you could potentially field several squadrons on the table, current example is bomber escort mission you have bomber sqn and an Escort sqn. Each sqn is then further sub-divided into elements as dictated by the scenario for deployment. In smaller scenarios each side is likely to be represented by just a single squadron, but the rule of thumb is that any time different types of planes are being used (e.g. Hurricanes and Spitfires) they are treated for purpose of the rules as different squadrons.
How will this work with Falcon squadron? Will it be if you take Falcon squadron you only have a single squadron with any type of Soviet aircraft?

You treat them as a single Squadron – the problem is that you can only play Trait cards on the appropriate aircraft, and having a lot of different Traits in a squadron may make it difficult to get the card you want \ need at any point in time. It’s a fun expansion based on a comic so you should not use that to try and justify mixed squadrons as a norm

As of Saturday gone, Falcon Sqn has started to Land in peoples collections…

    mine landed yesterday.

One thing to note is the original packing has an error of 2 rapid rolls & 1 great dive when it should be the other way round. Some people have reported to having the extra great dive in a separate sleeve so keep an eye out for it!
