Also, this leads to a peeve i’m having with the scenario rules. Map sizes aren’t given. I get this in that playing with different size miniatures will mean different size maps (6 mm require less battle mat than 28 mm). I wish a chart was made for the scenarios giving recommended sizes for the type of miniatures being used (i.e. “In this scenario…[Read more]

Hello again,
Developing my first battlefield for Elixheim. I went cheap for starters. Bought a 6′ x 4′ green felt fabric to be my battle mat and some other felt fabrics to be my rivers, roads, and fields.
The fields turn out be be very small if I go exactly with images from the map on the battlefield. I’ll probably fudge this to make the…[Read more]

George replied to the topic Plug Bayonets Question in the forum Black Powder 1 month, 1 week ago
That’s correct. Plug bayonets had there handle ends shoved up the gun barrels with the blades sticking out so they were hard to dislodge once inserted. Hurt the English when fighting the Scots at the battle of Killiecrankie. The Scots got up close to the English. The English tried to insert their plug bayonets but couldn’t get them inserted in…[Read more]

Never mind. found the answer to my question. French started to use them in 1703 and British used them under Marlborough. Now if I can only figure out how to delete my own post?

Hello,
Question, I’m looking at the rules in Last Argument of Kings for plug bayonets. I understand that in the War of the Spanish Succession (which I’m building my army for) used socket bayonets? Were they introduced before or during this war? Would the plug bayonet rules work for this conflict or for earlier wars of the late 17th century? Please advise

Hello,
I’m reflecting on the Hand-to-Hand rules in Black Powder. I’m looking at the more complex examples of where more than one unit is involved in a HTH fight as a single engagement. So, Let’s say I have a large infantry unit. it is being charged by 2 small unit so it’s front and a cavalry is charging in on the flank. So.
Large Unit: Gets 6…[Read more]

George started the topic The New Epic Battles Sounds Exciting in the forum General Discussion 2 months, 1 week ago
I checked out the new American Civil War series for Epic Battles. I hope that Warlord Games will do the same for other eras (American Revolution, Seven Years War, War of Spanish Succession, etc…) Also, is there a new set of rules for the Epic battles? Or are Black Powder rules being used just at smaller scales so that larger campaigns can be fought?

George started the topic Battalion Squares and Attack Columns in the forum Black Powder 2 months, 3 weeks ago
I was reading today. It doesn’t seem like battalions squares (and perhaps, too, brigade squares) as well as attack columns weren’t used commonly until the Napoleonic Wars. So, knowing this, should I not allow these formations in my War of Spanish Succession scenarios? How about any other scenarios that precede the Napoleonic Wars? Please advise.

Hello again community and friends,
First, I want to thank all of you for your most helpful replies.
Second, my new issue. I’m painting 4 Dutch grenadiers. I have the crest that went on their helmets. That’s too much detail for me to paint. However, I can print them very small then, as I understand it, one can varnish them onto their caps. Has…[Read more]

Hello,
I made a new blog post with pics and a short video of my first small army of Bavarians (War of Spanish Succession). It consists of 1 brigade of infantry, 1 brigade of cavalry, 1 battery of artillery and 3 generals. It was fun to make.
