  • So I’m taking that this is Epic and not 28mm…

During the AWI / American Rev.  The British army tended to pull their Grenadier Companies out of the battalions and form pure (combined) grenadier battalions (same as they did with the light companies).

So I’d go with padding to make the grenadiers a full 2 bases.

The first time a ship shoots with either of its broadsides (not bow or stern guns) in a game

highlighted the word either – this means the first time you fire a broadside it gets the bonus the second broadside (position) to fire wont get it

  • Hello again,

Interesting, I have been updating the Black Powder Quick Reference chart with Glory Hallelujah American Civil War supplemental rules.

I found something that needs clarification

In Glory Hallelujah page 58 it says under skirmishers “We tend to only use the +1 modifier for skirmish fire when skirmishers fire on formed, close order…[Read more]

  • Thank you, Nate. I thought so but wanted to be sure.

    Yes it does…

The only way to give a disordered unit any order is to make the units Elite Roll…  it to show that if the rank & file are running round like headless chickens it doesnt matter what you shout they aint listening!

  • Hello again,

So I have a charge questions about charging:

    1. A unit is given an order to charge an enemy that it is also close enough to shoot. The unit moves, survives closing fire, and moves into contact during the enemy. The melee is resolved during the hand-to-hand phase.

    a. I take it the charging unit cannot shoot before charging as it is…[Read more]

  • Thanks to Nate and Ben for replying to my earlier questions.

Here is another that came up.

A disorganized unit cannot receive orders. Does this include the rally order?

  • Thank you, Ben 🙂

  • Thank you for your response. However, #1 is still unclear. Yes, order before movement however the rules give specifics about these moves, namely: 1. An AC moves up to 12″ to join a BC at the start of the command phase before the BC issues his orders. 2. The rally order is the last order given and a BC moves up to 12″ to join him.

    The question is,…[Read more]

  • 1) orders before movement…

    2) in v1 Army Commanders could order Brigades… some wording wasnt updated.. but yes in v2 they cant directly order a brigade unless you house rule it

    3) terrain, like units, is abstracted in the core rules (not sure about the epic versions) so discuss /come to a concencouse in your group how you want them…[Read more]

  • Hi, I have been away from BP for a while now I’m getting back into it. Replaying a game and came up with some rules questions:

    1. An army general(AC) can only help a brigade commander(BC) re-roll a failed roll. A BC wants to rally a unit and have the AG support him. Let’s see if I’m doing this right. The AG moves into contact, up to 12″, with the…[Read more]

But yes, WL didnt check the pdfs before posting them…. the whole army lists feel rushed and ALL should have been revised.  (but then again as so much of the v2 FAQ wasnt included in the v3 rulebook and the v3 errata reverses rules that are in the main rulebook (MLRS & passengers…[Read more]

  • Nat replied to the topic Line of Battle in the forum Black Seas 9 months ago

a battle line is calculated at the start of the turn.

You use the lowest level of sails/ speed ship as the speed of the line
You use the position of the last ship in the line for working out where the whole line is in the wind gauge
You move the line from the lead ship

the whole line moves as a single element in regards to the wind gauge. …[Read more]

If playing using the v1 supplements – yes
If playing epic – no… epic is just the epic rulebook (AFAIK – dont have the epic rules, but they way they are protrayed is that they are in place of having to buy the supplements)
