Signaling Bugle

The BA3E Armies of Japan Officer entry allows one of his escorts to have a bugle for +10 points.  The Quartermaster notes states that this causes inexperienced infantry & artillery units to suffer a -1 penalty to their morale rating and no accompanying benefit. I searched the BA3E Rulebook & the BA3E Armies of Japan book but found no further reference to bugles.  Historically, IJA companies had 4 buglers, but why would anyone purchase this downgrade for 10 points?

You missed a key word – ‘enemy’.  “All Inexperienced enemy Infantry and Artillery units…”

It’s not a downgrade to your own inexperienced units, it’s a downgrade to the enemy’s inexperienced units.

Ye gads, how did I miss the key word “enemy”? I must have had too much blood in my alcohol system.  Much obliged, Stuart.  It was driving me to distraction.

For those who do not know, the IJA infantry company HQ had four buglers.  One would be retained in the Company HQ, and one would be sent to each of the three rifle platoons. The four medical orderlies in the company HQ would also be parceled out – but not always one per platoon. One of the company’s messengers would also be sent to each platoon HQ.
