Eric T HolmesParticipantAre inexperienced units always considered “Green?”
I can’t seem to find anything definitive within the rules, nor whether there is any “Points Cost” for creating “Green Inexperienced” units. I know, for as long as I’ve been playing this game, I should know this, but I can’t find anything that specifically points to a “Green Inexperienced” rule. The Green Special Rule doesn’t seem clear enough for my lack of expertise with the rule. If the case is that “all Inexperienced Units are green,” then the Inexperienced unit will always make a “Green” unit check as it takes a loss.
BAv3 — “Green units are inexperienced and therefore have a morale rating of 8.” Though this doesn’t imply the reverse … Inexperienced units are green, and therefore make the “Green Unit” test after taking a casualty.
I’ve written too many technical manuals and documents to allow one staement reflect a fact.
YMMV

ParticipantGreen units are inexperienced, not all inexperienced units are green. You are correct in that interpretaion, Green doesn’t come automatically with being inexperienced.
If a unit is Green, it will be stated in the unit’s entry in the relevant army list. Example, AoG3 p35, Replacement Army Squad is not Green, the only special rule they have is Shirkers. The Sicherungs (Security) Battalion Squad on the other hand IS Green.Soviet example, AoSU3 p33, Rifle Squad is Green, on the next page you have the LMG and SMG squads, neither of which has any reference to Green.
