Questions about Campaign Sea Lion Barges

I have a couple of questions about using barges in the Campaign Sea Lion book.

• When buying Sturmboots, do you also need to buy the Invasion Barge Type AS ?

This also applies when buying Tauchpanzers (Invasion Barge Type B) and Swimmpanzer (Invasion Barge Type C).

• The Invasion Barges are “Massive” and discard the first damage roll.

This seems a little odd as a Heavy Howitzer hit will discarded the same as the damage from a Light Anti-Tank hit.

Is this correct ??

On the massive damage question: They both have +4 armour penetration so it seems reasonable to me. Assuming actual damage was scored by busting through the boat’s armour, then the boat can trigger its special.

The heavy howitzer would still apply lots of pins though, on a hit, as it’s not a damage roll.  So in that sense the heavy howitzer is better.

Although it still seems a little odd, it does make sense.

Any idea on the need/un-need of the AS, B, and C barges ??
