Also remember that critical hits do more damage. 2 point hits for critical hits on a strafing run (or 1 point and 1 hull if strafing a ship). 1 point and 1 area hits for critical hits on a bombing run.

Steven you could try checking Armaments in Miniature, I know they have 1/200 decals.

I didn’t hear about the staff changes… hopefully they are just teething issues and everything will be back to normal soon.

Personally I really like the laden rule that does not allow forward FP to be used. Note that (at least the way I interpret it) it does not say the plane cannot shoot, it will just be a much less effective shot using only pilot skill (at -1 also due to the laden rule).

With all that ordnance weighing the aircraft down I could only imagine the massive effect it would have on dogfighting effectiveness. In effect only allowing them to take potshots when an aircraft crossed their path. From personal accounts I have read even the attachments on the underside of the wing left after the ordnance had been expended significantly effected the aircrafts speed and maneuverability.

The Air strike book has a picture of the “Armoured” card. It is a positive aircraft trait (always in play), and it simply reduces the number of attack die rolled against it by 1.

    Rules for “Laden aircraft”

It is a temporary negative trait in play until the aircraft expends its payload.

-Pilots of laden aircraft suffer -1 to pilot skill.*
-Forward firepower may not be used (although turrets can still shoot)*
-Laden aircraft reduce their speed by 1 (50mph)
-Laden aircraft may not climb for advantage if an enemy is within 18″.

*Penalty does not apply while expending ordnance to make an attack.

I don’t have the “rockets” equipment card so I can’t be sure about the specifics. However, if they are for ground attack then you could use them in accordance to the air strike rules.

You can choose to expend strafing ordnance (i.e. rockets, etc.) while performing a strafing attack. The aircraft gets +2 to its firepower for this attack only (the equipment is one use). The aircraft also counts as “Laden” until this ordnance is expended.

Oh yeah, cannot wait for these new releases! However, the Bf 109G, Me 262, and P47 bring us into the height of the bomber war. We’ll need those bombers more than ever now haha.

I am under the impression that the plan is to replace the existing metal aircraft with resin ones after the current supplies run out.

My assumption is that the very thin cutouts are what we will be getting as well. Alhough this is a slight dissapointment, as long as you have bought several of the first wave squadrons/starter set you should always have enough of the better ones to fill up your planes (aside from named aces of course).

I believe that the reasoning behind the thin discs (aside from costs) is that it makes them easier to pop out of the base. The original ones are thicker and after using the stem on the bases to remove them a few times you start to wear them out already. Not the greatest design it may be, but I try to counter act this by leaving the pilot skill discs in the bases after a game and only remove them when I have to.

Now that the individual squadron packs and aces are released I am under the impression that we are getting unique decals for each squadron. Seeing as how only the squadron + ace + decal bundle is all that currently remains under preorder.

I’m with you Bruce; I’d like to see some Italian planes released as well. In fact, I’d love to whip up a few Spanish civil war scenarios.

Don’t worry James, warlord have said that they have plenty in the works. They’re not planning on dropping the WWII theatre, they just wanted to expand the game.

I’m not sure why they did this so early on in the games life, but whatever, doesn’t bother me personally.

From what I understand is that they are planning on introducing the Me 262 soon. So that may be the reason why they decided to release some Korea jets.

I can’t confirm, but I too took that as a typo for “Opening Shot”. Rolling one firepower dice is the only way I could make sense of the card. Long range hits were rare and more luck than anything, therefor it wouldn’t make sense to have much of a chance of scoring a hit.

I think the mig alley set is pretty darn cool. Better yet, it’s great how they’ve made the rules compatible with the base game. Maybe one day (in the far future) we’ll even get a WWI BRS expansion!

However, I agree with everyone on the issues with metal models. I’ve never really liked metal because of the weight and that it’s more difficult to paint. But with this game the weight is more than an inconvenience, it creates a functional issue with the game.

My plan is to buy all the plastic models that warlord releases. But as far as the metal ones? I think I’ll pick up ace packs for the cards and then buy resin models from armaments in miniature. It’s unfortunate because it’s an inconvenience to try to get ahold of all the cards, to modify the models to fit on the bases, and I’d rather support warlord, but metal really is a deal breaker for me. Maybe one day they’ll get this game entirely over to plastic.
