Jim RipleyParticipantI’ve always like to build more than 1 or 2 versions of the tanks I like . I think it goes back to my 1/35th scale building days , when every possible version of a tank was probably kitted out by Dragon , Tamiya or AFV . Today , while there are many more companies producing plastic kits in 1/35 , we in 1/56 unfortunately aren’t quite so lucky with only 2 companies making plastic kits . There are a few small companies out there making accessories kits as well as resin & metal stowage bits . Here are a few of mine that I’ve built in the last few months .
The SBG bridge ( Resin /Pewter ) as well as the ARV parts are from S&S Models . I did replace the pewter plate covering the turret ring with plastic so I could have open hatches . The dozer blade ( Resin / Pewter ) is from Company B . I found I needed to add a small shim to make the blade support arms fit to the plastic wheel stations ( blade is made for a specific resin kit ) but it turned out great on the Grant and the M4 I built a few years ago . Crew figures are a assortment from Warlord & Rubicon in plastic , Empress metal and Tamiya 1/48 scale . Stowage is Warlord metal , Rubicon & Tamiya 48 in plastic , Value Gear resin 48 and some scratched bits

ParticipantNICE stuff, Jim! I don’t model anymore. I was out of gaming for nearly 30 years, so I don’t have paints, brushes, etc. anymore, and my eyesight is fading with age. These days I pay the talented ones to produce my gaming gear. I’ve picked up sprues, stowage kits and bits and send them along with models to my guy, Dustin, in TN. Generic minis and models are so boring. I’d add some pictures, but I’m pretty tech-illiterate….

Jim RipleyParticipantYou’re right , generic is boring . I’ve always wondered why Warlord’s resin vehicles have molded on stowage as opposed to separate stowage so you can place it where you like , or better yet no stowage at all , leaving it up to the builder to add what they like . I’ve always wanted to build a beach diorama with DD Shermans , but having 2 or 3 with the same molded on gear , which is sometimes placed blocking hatches , periscopes or air intakes on the engine deck doesn’t sit well with me . The same goes for the new resin Priest Kangaroo kit , too much molded on junk IMO . Just look at any period photo of a row of tanks , the amount of diversity in how each crew stores their gear is crazy , from barely anything except fuel cans , to tarps , ammo boxes , personal gear and “found” items like bicycles to chickens . I like the option of choice .

Kar98kParticipantHere was an easy kit-bash I did sometime ago. I had this extra 20mm turret from a Rubicon Models kit, and thought, “Hey, SdKfz234/1”, so a tweaked it to fit my 1:56 scale plastic Puma (SdKfz234/2) kit by Italeri/WG. Yes, nowadays, you can get the Sdkfz 234 and Variants kit from Rubicon Models, and with the 280048 expansion kit, you can also build an SdKfz 234/1. However, this wasn’t available yet.

Jim RipleyParticipantCool . I did something similar converting the Puma to a 234/3 with the Warlord 251/9 sprue they always seem to have on a half price sale . In fact I grabbed all those 251 sprues on a “just might need it one day ” kind of thing

Jim RipleyParticipantOne thing I like to do , is open up the hatches that are molded closed . A lot of the newer kits are staring to have separate hatch covers but the older stuff is sadly lacking .
