His Majesty’s forces of the Commonwealth now have one of the most iconic guns the Royal Artillery can field – the 25 pdr! Not content with bringing you this famous gun and limber we also have the classic tractor – the Morris C8 Quad – to tow it around the battlefield…
Morris C8 Quad
The Morris Commercial C8 FAT (Field Artillery Tractor) commonly known as a Quad was an artillery tractor of the British and Commonwealth forces during World War II. It was used to tow field artillery pieces, such as the 25 pounder gun-howitzer, and anti-tank guns, such as the 17 pounder.
Although its sloped sides suggest otherwise, the Quad was not armoured. It saw service in the British Army throughout the war in all theatres.
British 25 pdr
The 25 pounder was the key howitzer used by the British Army throughout World War 2 and beyond. It was found in every theatre of war.
It was fast firing and hard hitting but also easily manouevarable when pulled by a quad tractor and limber. It was operated by a crew of six.
For those of you with a healthy interest in other theatres of the war such as Burma and North Africa this gun will also see the earlier pattern barrel (sans muzzle break) so expect crews for those in the future too!
