Participant“Barrel length and control are more important than caliber”? Huh? Not even close. Barrel length isn’t a defining characteristic….of anything. “Control” is just some nebulous attempt at a term. What are the defining characteristics of an automatic rifle? Kinda simple; (1) Capable of full-automatic fire (2) Loads from a detachable magazine (3) Fires a full-length rifle cartridge (4) bipod….

ParticipantAh, so basically you just wanna be silly/argumentative. Who cares about “fire 5 mags full auto and see which one still shoots without cooking off”? Who cares how long the barrel is? That has absolutely nothing to do with the simple defining characteristics that determine an automatic rifle. Probably the best automatic rifle made for any kind a “sustained automatic fire” was the BREN….and maybe variations, because they had an easily changeable barrel. But they’re all still just automatic rifles. For real “sustained automatic fire” you want an actual belt-fed machinegun….
