noob question about Landwehr

Postby geekmeter11 » Sun Jan 01, 2012 6:51 pm

I am not a big fan of the Napoleonic battles; but, my club is building various armies for the period, so I am going to contribute some troops
I was told that most units start at 16 figures (so each box would have 2 units). The Prussian Landwehr box comes with 30 figures.
What am I missing?

You can make your units any size - as long as your group agrees what a Standard, Large, Warband, etc are and what parameters are acceptable to your group.

Personally, my Nap. French are 30ish to a unit. So my Line are a command stand of a mounted officer, drummer, and standard, 3 companies at 6 per stand, Grenadiers at 6 per stand, and then Voltigeurs skirmishing at 2 half size stands of 2 figures. Total of 31. My Westphalians on the other hand are a command stand, 3 stands of 4, Grenadiers at 4, and a pair of individually based skirmishers - total of 21, but as all stands are the same 40mm square size, they are both standard regiments!

For your Landwehr, I would discuss what others are doing for units - how many stands (nominally 6 companies) and what size of stands. If they say 16 makes a standard unit, then by all means 2 units of 15 from the box will be fine.
You could add a casualty for the 16th figure, for example, or a shrub - it doesn't really matter.

Hope that makes sense! Good luck and welcome to the wonderful, wonderful world of Napoleonics. :)

We are using 4 figures to a stand of 4 cm square.
