Hi, I have been away from BP for a while now I’m getting back into it. Replaying a game and came up with some rules questions:

    1. An army general(AC) can only help a brigade commander(BC) re-roll a failed roll. A BC wants to rally a unit and have the AG support him. Let’s see if I’m doing this right. The AG moves into contact, up to 12″, with the BC at the beginning of the command phase. The BC moves up to 12″ (along with the accompanying AG) to the unit he wishes to rally. If he succeeds, great, a casualty will be removed. If unsuccessful, he can re-roll due to the accompanying AG. Yes?

    2. It says in the rules that an army general cannot issue orders, only help a brigade commander re-roll their die. Yet this seems strange in regards to a rally and follow me order. It says under these rules that a commander (that’s both an army general and brigade commander) can issue these orders. History is full of examples of high commanders rallying troops in battle. So, would I be wrong to interpret that the rally and follow me orders are able to be conducted by an army general?

    3. Hills, I’m playing the Epic Battles American Civil War scenario “The Battle of the Greenbrier River”. It has a very long hill in it (it’s 2.5′ on my table). I have a cannon on the hill. How far back can the artillery be on a hill and see units on the ground level and vice -versa. I’m using the overhead shooting rule with the edge of the hills top contour as the “intervening unit”. If the cannon is more than 6″ from the edge, It can’t shoot a unit on the ground. If it is within 6″-1″ from the edge it can shoot at any ground unit that is not within 6″ of the hill. If the unit is within 1″ of the edge of the hill then there is no overhead rule. Any comments?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

    1) orders before movement…

    2) in v1 Army Commanders could order Brigades… some wording wasnt updated.. but yes in v2 they cant directly order a brigade unless you house rule it

    3) terrain, like units, is abstracted in the core rules (not sure about the epic versions) so discuss /come to a concencouse in your group how you want them played

BP ISNT a water tight rules systems – its a club framework… it provides you the core of your game for your group to tweak as you see fit!

Thank you for your response. However, #1 is still unclear. Yes, order before movement however the rules give specifics about these moves, namely: 1. An AC moves up to 12″ to join a BC at the start of the command phase before the BC issues his orders. 2. The rally order is the last order given and a BC moves up to 12″ to join him.

The question is, if the AC has joined a BC can he continue with him on his rally order?

    Hi George,

You will note in the rule book that it is not necessary to move the actual General into contact with the BC, you could use an ADC for example. The point is he is effectively just a counter, a visual reminder that the BC has a reroll available. So no, I don’t believe the General/ADC has to continue with the BC under a Rally or Follow Me order, but if you wished him to, I don’t see why not. His sole purpose is to remind you about the reroll. Especially useful if you are playing that the reroll can be used for rolls other than orders. As Nat said, the rules are a framework. Amend them as you and your mates see fit. – Ben.
