Jim Ripley started the topic Kit Bashing Figures – Easy Peasy or a PIA ? in the forum Bolt Action 2 years ago
Well its a bit of both really .Sometimes it just an arm swap from another sprue and sometimes its major surgery . So let’s see some of your kit bashes , if possible let us know where the parts came from to make your unique figure . Mind you , if your like me , you just muck about with pieces from your parts box and end up with a something cool .…[Read more]

Jim Ripley replied to the topic Any help with assembling Soviet Infantry avilable ? in the forum Bolt Action 2 years ago
I’ve tried to have them as separate groups of 3 or 4 but they just didn’t sit well on the tank so I finally broke down and glued them on . It did involve a few leg swaps to make them fit as IRC I mostly used only 4 body types from the sprue . I wanted to put as many troops as I could on the tank engine deck , but 9 was the best I could manag…[Read more]

Sorry to hear you both had problems building figures . I think I’ve built 3 boxes worth and I love them . On the other hand I have a real hard time painting one piece metal figures , god I hate them . Love the sculpts but hate the painting . And it is getting harder for me to see the fiddley bits too when assembling kits , but I’ve found a ma…[Read more]

They are out of Poland . They make a lot of not “40K” Marine & Orc parts ( arms , legs ,heads , personal weapons , artillery etc ) as well as scenic bases for figures . I’m not a 40K guy but my buddies teenage boys are , and they love their bits for conversions . The pieces I’ve seen are well detailed and crisply molded resin . The WW2 fi…[Read more]

I have both the Rubicon and Italeri/Warlord kits . Rubicon’s ammo boxes are not to scale or even look the part I’m afraid . The I/W gives you 2 boxes , and although I have cast my own pieces before , lately my results have been less than favorable edging towards disaster . I really don’t want to risk it . I think the Shapeways ones might do th…[Read more]

I’ve got a couple of Flak 88s to build as diorama pieces and would like to have a reasonable amount of those 3 round wicker ammo boxes on the bases . Anyone know of any aftermarket resin or pewter ones out there ?

Jim Ripley replied to the topic British Commandos – no Bren? in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 6 months ago
There is a Bren arm pair on the new Brit/ Canadian sprue , maybe some ones got a set to spare . Or pick up a Brit weapons sprue and convert a pair arms to carry the Bren . You will also find a Bren in the plastic Uni Carrier kit .

The metal crew for the plastic 88 look much better than the guys that came with a buddies resin kit , new molds ? Not much of a metal fan so I got both the Italeri and RM guns . I noticed that while you get the transport wheels with the RM kit , the drop legs on the gun platform have the stakes molded in them . And the Italeri kit has the stakes…[Read more]

Jim Ripley replied to the topic Historical proof for German Fallschirmjäger wearing grey blue trousers? in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 7 months ago
IRC it was the guys from the original 1st Para Division ( formed 1938 ) who had fought at the Eden Emael fort in Belgium ( landed gliders on the fort !) and fought in Greece and Crete with heavy loses who kept the Luft blue jump suit and wedge cap as a badge of honor after the uniform was changed . And of course as the war dragged on , less and…[Read more]

Wow , those look great , but they’re not the troops I was thinking of , it was a box of regular Russian troops that was being converted . But now this article has got me thinking about working on some winter Russians , I hope my Green Stuff hasn’t dried out

Back on the old forum , someone was converting plastic Russian infantry into female Russian troops with various bits of Green stuff and IRC some after market heads . Is he still out there ? Did he ever complete his troops ? I’m going to try the same type conversion to add some variety to the Bad Squido troops I all ready have and was hoping to g…[Read more]

I was a little disappointed when plastic seated passenger sprue was released because the were a row of 5 figures jointed together , and I wanted single figures to ride in my vehicles , so I did a little surgery …

I love to see what others have done to kit bash the plastic troop sprues to get unique figures that no one else has . Here’s a few I’ve done , I’ll try to keep it Warlord figures only , so no Tamiya or Rubicon bits used

Jim Ripley replied to the topic The tracks on the A12 Matilda II – parts reversed? in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 3 months ago
I think they just got the parts mixed up in the paragraph . It does read a little confusing , why call them raised and lowered ? . The raised wheel set was standard production , extending the wheel sets ( spacers in the coil springs ? ) was a “test” by one unit ( IRC ) to try and raise the belly so it didn’t bog down in soft / muddy ground in F…[Read more]

The pictures I’ve saved show both flat and grouser track in the BEF and N. Africa ( IRC the “lowered” running gear was only used by one unit in the BEF ? ) . My main Matila interest is East , and my Russian pictures show a both flat and grouser ( maybe different factory shipments ? ) I’ve only found one picture in the 150 odd I’ve got that show…[Read more]

As Nigel says , parts 14 are the arms for the AT rifle . The right holds the pistol style grip and the left is braced on the ground . I found all the rifle arms work with the LMG as it’s the same length as the rifles so the hands are in the right places . Personally the Russians are my favorite plastic set as the kit bash potential is f…[Read more]

A cheap way to get an extra weapon sprue , is to buy the plastic Warlord KV I/II kit ( or the JS II ) as it comes with a sprue of Soviet troops and weapons to use as tank riders . If you don’t want the figures , sell them or convert them to make Artillery crews
