The Achaeans used small units of poorly-trained Achaean Slingers as skirmishers. Alongside regular archers, they formed the long-range capabilities of the Achaean or Mycenaean army. The Achaean Slingers are a key component of the Mycenaean army list (which can be found on p.16 of the Army Lists: Biblical & Classical book).
The Achaean or Mycenaean Greeks of the early Aegean city-states were dominant in the region from the collapse of Minoan civilisation to the end of the Bronze Age. They, therefore, thrived alongside the Hittites and the New Kingdom Egyptians.
